I personally believe that some of the most beautiful sites are right here in the Mountains. I hope each of you continue to have safe travels and wonderful family times. Lora Davidson Family & Consumer Sciences Agent/Harlan County All classes will be held at the Extension Depot unless noted otherwise. As always, please call the Extension office to register for classes. 606-573-4464 August Highlights August 1st- Cultural Arts can be dropped off from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Extension Depot. Judging will be done later that day. August 3rd- Harlan County Homemaker Kick-Off will begin at 5:00 p.m. All Cultural Arts entries can be picked up during the event. August 21st @10:00 a.m. Make It Monday! Create a beautiful scenic painting. August 21st- @ 5:00 p.m. Homemaker meeting to discuss New Clubs. September Highlights Aug. 29th, Sept. 5th and Sept. 12th- @10 a.m Memory Banking Do you have memories from loved ones who have passed? Do you want to be able to leave your family some of your most fond memories as well? If so, look for the flyer in the newsletter to learn more about it! Sept. 6th- @ 10:00 a.m. Make-It-Monday We will be making a reused canning jar ring pumpkin! Each participant will need to bring 24 Jar Rings. Due to scheduling this class will be held on a Wednesday Sept. 14th Annual Homemakers Meeting @ 6:30 The theme for this years meeting will be An Evening with Mrs. Lincoln. Tickets can be purchased now at the Extension office. Ticket prices are $12 per ticket and if you buy yours early you will be entered into a special drawing. In order to be entered you must have your ticket purchased before August 4th. Tickets will still be sold up until the event. Look for the upcoming homemaker leader lessons for the year inside the newsletter!

Homemaker Lessons for 2017/2018 The new homemaker year has officially started! Here is the upcoming homemaker leader lessons for the year! Please make sure that someone from your club is represented in order for you to receive the material to teach the monthly lesson. All lessons will be held at the Extension Depot unless noted otherwise. Extend your Clothing Budget with Simple Sewing Aug. 24th 10:00 a.m. Keeping Family Traditions Sept. 28th 10:00 a.m. Holiday Ideas Oct. 17th 10:00 a.m. Keys to Embracing Aging Mail Out Making Family Mealtime Mail Out Gardening Options for Everyone Feb. 15th 10:00 a.m. Toaster Ovens March 29th 10:00 a.m. Savvy Sellers and Bargain Hunters April 26th 10:00 a.m. Enjoy cooking? Want to try new recipes? Then this program is for you! Come out and learn about healthy recipes that support your local farmers and teach you ways to prepare and enjoy the food you grow. In August we will be making the Apple Cranberry Waldorf Salad. August 23rd @ 11:00 a.m. In September we will be making Apple Berry Salsa with Cinnamon Chips! September 19th @ 10:00 am. Please remember to call and register for each program.

Are you interested in learning ways to save money? Ever wondered exactly where your money goes? This program will concentrate on ways that you can learn to save money, what areas need improvement, and better money habits. When: September 7th Time: 5:00 p.m. Where: Extension Depot Please call to register! Harlan County Homemaker Annual Meeting Please join us as we celebrate our new year and annual meeting! We would love to see each and everyone of you as we begin our new year. This years theme is An Evening with Mrs. Lincoln. The program will show lovely gowns that Mrs. Lincoln wore, the gowns are created and shown throughout the program by Mary Hixson and Joan Howard. Ticket prices are $12 per guest If you buy your ticket before August 10th you will be entered into a drawing for a special door prize! Tickets can be purchased at the Harlan County Extension Office.
