Welcome to proposalcentral Version 2. For those of you who have used the earlier version of our program, you will find some useful enhancements in the new version and also some familiar concepts that you are used to. The basic first steps are: Register into proposalcentral Complete your Professional Profile Create and Submit your Application This tutorial will show you how to Create and Submit your Application.
Once you have logged into proposalcentral, you will view the opening page. There are 4 menu tabs at the top of page to navigate the main parts of the system. They include: Manage Proposals Professional Profile Institution Profile Grant Opportunities Under each tab is a color coded horizontal bar with menu items available for you to select from.

You can create an application in two ways: the Create New Proposal button under the Manage Proposals tab; or, the Grant Opportunities tab. You can select Create New Proposal to view a list of the available grants. OR - you can also select the Grant Opportunities tab to view a list of the available grants.
Once you click on either of the 2 points a list of available grants will appear under the Grant Opportunities tab.. Each grant program may have a different application - different data requirements and different application sections. The following examples are intended to illustrate the steps to completing an application. FIRST Enter a Project Title and click SAVE. This creates your application and stores it under your Manage Proposals tab.
proposalcentral If the program you are applying to requires the use of specific forms, you can down load these forms after saving your proposal title. Click on 8) Attachments. Once you have clicked on the Save button, the links to the other pages of the application appear in the Proposal Sections menu. You can now click on any of them to move from section to section within the grant application.
You can Save your application at anytime. Later, when you log back in, you can find and edit your application from the Manage Proposals tab. Just click on the Edit link to open the application that you saved.
Complete application instructions are available by clicking on hyperlink of the grant program name Instructions specific to each section of the application are available on most pages. Take notice of the prompts next to fields. They will help you to format your details correctly..
Fields with a red asterisk are required.
The Validate button checks that all the required fields are completed. As an example, the total amount requested below was left blank on purpose. Clicking on the Validate button generates a report showing the data that has not been entered yet.
The error report shows that an entry was not made for the total amount requested field of the title page. Click a section heading to go there and enter the missing information. Each time Validate is clicked, it checks the entire application. The report will show data that is missing in every section.
Enter the required data and click Validate again.
Now the report does not list total amount requested as incomplete because it has been filled out.
Click Next to go to the next section of the proposal (available at the top and bottom of the screen). Or, go directly to another section by clicking on the link to the section using the menu on the left hand side of the screen. Next saves the data you entered on the current page, then goes to the Next section of the application. Clicking another section will take you there immediately, but it does NOT save the data you entered on the current page. Be sure to SAVE first.
In the PI section of the application, choose the PI for the proposed work. Pick a name/institution combination from the list and click Save PI Change. Details for this section are drawn from the PI s Professional Profile.

Details for this section are drawn from the PI s Professional Profile. Click Edit Profile to make any changes to the Professional Profile. HINT: If you are the PI, you can give Edit access to your Professional Profile. This is how you enable support staff to create proposals for you and add you as a PI.
Click on the Return to Proposal link to move back to your application.
Select Purdue University and click Save Details for this section are drawn from the Purdue's Institution Profile. The applicant can use these screens to enter any specific institutional details that are related to the grant application.
Add a text-only version of the abstract. HINT: Cut and paste the text from your word processor so you can check the spelling first. HINT: Check special characters which will be converted to nonsense symbols if you cut and paste them here. HINT: If your abstract exceeds the specified limit, the text will be truncated. Select a keyword from the list on the left. Then click >> to add it to the selected keywords on the right.
The % of project of the areas must total 100%. Click on the Save Weighting button to recalculate the total %. You can remove selected items by clicking on the Del link for the item.
At the bottom of the sections in some grant applications, you can attach a file like an MS Word abstract file - to your application. Click on the Browse button to search for the file in the folders of your computer and then click the Upload Attachment button. A note will appear at the top of the next page letting you know the file was successfully uploaded. A link is available to download a foundation abstract template for you to complete if required. At the bottom of the page, the statistics of the file that was uploaded are shown. You can click on the Del link to remove the file or you can click on the Show link to view the document.
The Proposal Narrative (sometimes called the Research Plan) is usually a document that you prepare on your word processor and attach to the application. The proposal narrative can contain the research plan, budget, budget justification, biosketches of key personnel, etc. Click the template link to download an MS Word document provided by the grantmaker as a guide for your proposal narrative. Save the file to your computer.
Once you have completed the template, you can attach it to your application in proposalcentral. When you ve completed the template, click browse button to select the proposal narrative file on your computer. You can supply your own description of the attached file. Make sure the proper Attachment Type is select i.e., Proposal Narrative. Then click the Upload Attachment button to send the file from your computer to proposalcentral
As with the abstract, a note appears at the top of the screen to let you know that the file was loaded successfully. NOTE: You can attach multiple versions of your proposal narrative as you develop them. When you have attached your final version, delete all the old versions before submitting your application.
The PI Data Sheet is a special section of the application for sensitive information about the PI that won t be shown to reviewers. This information is for internal use by the grant-maker. Most of the information in the PI Data Sheet is pulled from the Professional Profile. A link is available to edit the details in your Professional Profile and then return to the application.
A note will appear at the top of the screen letting you know that the proposal has been submitted.
