Mission Statement The overall mission of the Division of Nursing is to strive for excellence in the preparation of technical nurses (Associate of Applied Science in Nursing) and professional nurse generalists (Bachelor of Science in Nursing). This mission is accomplished through the following goals: A. Preparation of graduates to provide nursing care for individuals, families, and communities within a variety of health care settings: BSN. Preparation of graduates to provide nursing care for individuals, families, and families in communities in structured settings: AASN B. The encouragement of critical thinking to guide nursing interventions which promote, maintain, and restore health: AASN, BSN. C. Development of accountability through a commitment to professional nursing practice and lifelong learning: BSN Development of Accountability through a commitment to the practice of technical nursing and lifelong learning: AASN. 2. Vision Statement 3. Goal To successfully prepare technical and professional graduates who are competent and who can successfully function in the health care setting to meet the needs of society for safe nursing care that will restore or maintain health. To offer courses of study in a well defined, national and state approved curriculum that lead to the successful completion of the professional course of study by graduates from the BSN programs and state approved curriculum for the technical nurse graduates from the AASN program. 4. Objectives for Goal A. To maintain accreditation of the BSN program through the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission by adhering to the standards of excellence required by that Commission. To seek accreditation of the AASN program by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. B. To maintain approval of the AASN and BSN programs by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing by adhering to the standards required by that Board. C. To work towards achieving the short term, intermediate and long term goals cited in the current Strategic Plan for the DON. D. To continue to refine the syllabi for each course of study and include measurable learning objectives for what the student is required to know and do to successfully complete the specified nursing program. E. To continue to develop test items that accurately measure achievement of course learning objectives at higher cognitive levels such as application and analyses.

3 F. To continue to provide a cadre of learning strategies that assist the student to be able to think critically to effectively function in the healthcare work place. G. To prepare graduates who have the educational preparation to matriculate through programs leading to higher degrees in nursing. H. To prepare graduates who, due to their liberal arts education, are able to more fully enjoy life and to participate as meaningful contributors to society. I. To evidence achievement of the desired outcomes of student education through effective evaluation of their capability to think critically, implement the steps of the nursing/teaching - learning process in client care (Assessment, Analysis, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation), exercise management and leadership skills, and effectively communicate and collaborate with clients and other members of the health care team in the delivery of health care. Graduates 2009-2010 Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Graduates (LPN RN Fast Track Program): 11* Associate of Arts degree graduates achieving the AA degree subsequent to meeting requirements for a BSN degree: 23 Bachelor of Science in Nursing Graduates from Generic Program: 27** Bachelor of Science in Nursing Graduates from the RN to BSN Completion Program: 2*** Total Number of Graduates Cited Above: 40 *3 AASN students have not successfully completed the HESI Exit Examination **3 BSN students have not successfully completed the HESI Exit Examination. ** 1 RN to BSN student has an I and 1 year to complete course requirements for graduation. Employment of Graduates Graduates from our BSN program have found employment in many areas. The following is a list of agencies employing the majority of our graduates.
