2 LAST BEAM IN PLACE FOR THE NEW COMMUNITY EAST The construction project at East reached a significant milestone last month with the placement of the last beam atop the new patient tower. The beam was covered with signatures from employees and other interested parties, and was hoisted into place along with the customary flags and a tree (a generations-old tradition inspired by ancient Scandinavian builders, who sought to appease the tree-dwelling spirits displaced when trees were cut for new structures). The project, which will result in a brand-new East experience for patients, requires 2,104 tons of structural steel. Roughly half of the necessary 6,000 cubic yards of concrete have been poured to date. To watch a video recap of the ceremony, please click on the link below. READ MORE ABOUT COMMUNITY EAST S NEW NEIGHBOR-TO-BE As you probably know, the new East is not the only construction project happening on our campus at 16th Street and Ritter Avenue. The state of Indiana is preparing to begin work on the new Indiana Neuro Diagnostic Institute, to be built on the north end of the campus and connected directly to East. A recent Indianapolis Business Journal article shared significant details of the project, particularly how it represents new thinking in the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral health issues in Indiana. As the IBJ explains, the 159-bed facility will serve as a central, flagship facility where doctors can assess and diagnose patients with acute and chronic mental health conditions, addictions, developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injury and degenerative illnesses. The state sought a location adjacent to an acutecare hospital because so many people with behavioral health issues also have multiple chronic medical needs. Representatives of the state determined that would be the ideal partner. The full Indianapolis Business Journal article can be accessed at the link below.

3 CONGRATULATIONS, MARIAN GRADUATES! This weekend marks the commencement ceremony for the first graduating class of the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Marian University. has been an active partner in bringing the medical school to life and supporting the educating of its students, in the hope of expanding the pipeline of physicians for Indiana. Of the roughly 130 classmates graduating, nearly 99 percent received a residency. Almost two-thirds will be training in primary care, and more than a third will be training in Indiana. In fact, of s incoming class of residents who join our team in July, half are from Marian. Those being honored at the commencement also will include Bryan Mills, s president and CEO, who will be awarded an honorary doctorate. EMPLOYEE GIVING CAMPAIGNS NOW UNDERWAY The employee giving campaign for s East, North, South and West regions launched May 1. The theme is I Give Because I Care, and donations to Health Network Foundation will support a wide range of important causes. For example, your gift to the foundation could assist at-risk patients in getting necessary prescriptions, help low-income cancer patients afford care or enable financially struggling mothers to afford basic needs like cribs or car seats. Your donation could offer hope by helping to spread the word about suicide prevention, providing free meals to seniors in our community or offering lifesaving care to victims of violence or abuse. Or your support could fund healthcare scholarships for employees and financial assistance to team members in need. The Health Network Foundation employee giving campaign runs through May 31, and donations can be made by visiting e.com/foundation. Meanwhile, the foundations at Anderson and Howard operate separate employee giving campaigns with similar timing. These campaigns are also focused on raising funds to assist patients and team members alike enhancing the care we deliver, supporting our mission in our communities and creating exceptional employee experiences. Anderson and Howard employees, please keep an eye on your email for details about the employee giving campaigns in your area.

4 NEW MARKETING CAMPAIGNS FOCUS ON ONCOLOGY recently launched two advertising campaigns with oncology messaging. One campaign is network-wide, spotlighting the clinical excellence of our cancer care program by highlighting patient stories and reinforcing our affiliation with MD Anderson Cancer Network. The second campaign is building awareness of the new Cancer Center North in the geographic region surrounding the center, and the campaign invited the public to the grand opening celebration last month. This is a robust, integrated effort that has involved contributions by our marketing, communications, social media, media relations, video, web and physician access teams. EVENTS HONOR THE NEW CANCER CENTER Hundreds of people, including a variety of dignitaries plus lots of members of the general public, turned out to check out the new Cancer Center North at a pair of special events in late April. The official ribbon cutting was Saturday morning, April 22, with the big scissors in the hands of one of our patients who also shared remarks about her cancer journey. Though that open house and an event the prior evening put the spotlight on a remarkable new facility, the big theme was celebrating people the providers and other team members who deliver our cancer care and helped design the new facility, the generous donors who support our work, and most important, the patients who are at the center of our care. To view a video on the new cancer center, please click on the link below. 6 WELCOMING POLICE TO THE PAVILIONS The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department conducts roving roll call events at a variety of locations throughout the community, with the aim of enhancing security and getting better acquainted with constituents. Roger Spurgeon, commander of the department s East District, says the idea is to connect with the community we serve by starting off our day away from traditional headquarters buildings in favor of neighborhood and business locations requesting our presence. It gives officers and citizens alike a positive setting in which to interact and learn about each other. Two recent roll call events brought dozens of uniformed police officers to s ambulatory pavilions on the east side of Indianapolis, where the officers shared sandwiches with team members from medical practices and other ambulatory care offices located at the pavilions. Roving roll calls took place last month at the Health Pavilion Shadeland and the Health Pavilion Washington. SIGN THE PLEDGE FOR HAND HYGIENE DAY! The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention estimates that one in 25 hospital patients on any given day will acquire a healthcare-associated infection. Hand hygiene is a great way to prevent these infections. World Hand Hygiene Day is Friday, May 5, and as you may be aware, a team has been working for the past year to increase hand hygiene awareness for our employees, patients and visitors. As part of this initiative, you re invited to join in on Friday in making a renewed commitment to always washing your hands. It s just one more way that we can put patients first. Many of our inpatient sites will have banners for you to sign. Check your email to find the location nearest you.
