University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Patient and Visitor Parking Instructions for UI Health Care Staff UIHC offers a variety of parking options for our patients and their visitors as detailed in the attached Q&A. Options include reduced fee parking passes, no charge parking in the Hawkeye Commuter Lot with valid placard and paid discounted parking passes for 3 or 7 day consecutive stays. UI Health Care staff members are responsible for printing Reduced Fee Parking Passes for patients and their visitors per their approved clinic or unit procedure. In ambulatory clinics, this will occur at the front desk either at check in or at check out, depending on the appropriate workflow for the clinic. On the inpatient unit, the pass may be printed at the unit clerk station upon patient discharge or visitor departure. Staff members understand that Reduced Fee Parking Passes must only be printed for the following situations: All inpatients and outpatients, as well as their accompanying visitors UI Faculty and Staff with medical appointments or an inpatient stay Reduced Fee Parking DOES NOT apply to the following: Persons who are not patients on the given day Persons who are not visitors of patients on the given day Persons conducting non medical business at UI Hospitals and Clinics Valet parking ($15 per day) The reduced fee parking pass replaces the former parking sticker program. As this document is contained within Epic, documentation of the usage of reduced fee parking passes is automated within the system. Each print records the staff member s name and ID and work department, time and date printed and the patient name associated with the parking pass. On a monthly basis, clinic or unit leadership will be expected to review the parking pass audit report which reflects all printing activity to validate proper protocols have been followed For family members of patients that pass away at UIHC, we provide complimentary parking using the Parking Pass for Grieving Friends and Family located in the Service Recovery Tool Kit. This pass will trigger the Parking Office to charge the UIHC directly for the accumulated parking fees for the family member(s). If the patient utilized the UIHC Valet Service, this pass will also notify Valet Services that the charge is waived. Procedures to document the usage and audit follow the existing Service Recovery Tool Kit protocols. Staff members also understand that printing Reduced Fee Parking Passes or issuing passes for Grieving Friends and Family for purposes other than patients and patient visitors may result in disciplinary action. An ongoing auditing process is in place to monitor appropriate usage and levels of activity. Patients and visitors choosing to park at the Hawkeye Commuter Lot can obtain a pass from: UI Parking and Transportation: West Campus Transportation Center (connected to Ramp 3) o Monday through Friday, 7:30am 5:30pm Main Information Desk (Elevator E, Level 1) o Monday through Friday, 6:00am 8:00pm o Weekends and holidays, 7:00am 6:00pm Please see below for specific instructions on printing Inpatients and Outpatients, as well as Questions and Answers (Q&A). 14. What is the best option for the patient a discounted parking ramp pass or the maximum daily rate? The answer depends on the duration of the stay. See the following examples. Example 1: A patient enters hospital Ramp 1 at 7 p.m. Saturday and is leaving the following Monday at 6 p.m. Would the best option for the patient be to purchase a three-day pass for $27.00 or paying the maximum daily fee with a validated pass? Paying the maximum daily fee with a Reduced-Fee Parking Pass will be the least costly option for the patient at $20 because the maximum daily charge with the pass is $10 per 24-hour period compared to a three-consecutive-day parking pass for $27. Example 2: If a patient is going to be at the hospital for one week (7 consecutive days), what is the best parking option for them? A Seven-Consecutive-Day parking pass at $58.00 would be the lowest cost, compared to $70.00 (7 days at $10/day) for the maximum rate. 15. NOTE: We provide complimentary parking for grieving friends and family members of patient who pass away in our institution. In this situation, the hard copy Parking Pass for Grieving Friends and Families is available in the Service Recovery Toolkit. The procedure for issuing these passes follows the standard Service Recovery Toolkit process. This pass waives either the family member s ramp parking fee or their Valet fee, whichever was utilized. 16. Who can I contact with questions regarding the program?
