SWAB BARCELONA 2016 Swab Barcelona, International Contemporary Art Fair, presents its eighth edition which will take place from the 29 th of September until the 2 nd of October at the Italian Pavilion at Fira Barcelona. Swab will get together galleries from all over the world, focusing on emerging artists born after 1975. SUPPORTING MATERIAL FOR APPLICATION The online application process is opened from February 2 nd until April 29 th. After having successfully completed the online application form, please send us the following supporting material to galleries@swab.es: List of represented artists List of art fairs where the gallery participated in 2014 and 2015 Brief explanation of the exhibition planned for your booth at Swab Barcelona (maximum 6 artist) Minimum 2 images in JPG per artist of works proposed for exhibition or similar works if the works have not yet been created. This has to be sent via email or We Transfer to: galleries@swab.es Additional information such as catalogues (no more than 3 in total) or DVD s (for media work) can be posted to the Swab Barcelona Office to support your application. * Please note: Swab Barcelona will not return any submission material. ELIGIBILITY The selection of participant galleries is based on the exhibition proposal submitted. Will be taken into consideration the quality of the artwork, previous Swab Barcelona participations and all the documentation submitted with the application. The decisions about acceptance or rejection of the applications are final. Only galleries who represent emergent artists and hold regular public exhibitions on their own spaces are eligible as Swab Barcelona exhibitors. Deviation from these admission conditions may be allowed, at the discretion of the Swab Barcelona Selection Committee. Joint applications are welcome, but must be made separately by each party signing the terms and conditions of each application document. Note that the participation at the Fair on one or more previous occasions does not guarantee the selection for participation in subsequent Fair editions. SELECTION COMMITTEE The submission of the application does not automatically confer the right of admission to Swab Barcelona 2016. Decisions on admission are made exclusively by Swab Barcelona Selection Committee. The Selection Committee evaluates the participants in accordance to the criteria of quality and suitability towards the Swab Barcelona 2016 concept and following the eligibility criteria set out in this document. Please note that the number of participating galleries will be set by Swab Barcelona. A correctly fulfilled and signed Application Form constitutes an application only and confers no right of participation at the fair. EXHIBITOR PROGRAMMES SOLO SWAB Direlia Lazo and Carolina Ariza repeat the curation of Solo Swab. The section preserves the format of individual presentations of Latin American artists with a special attention to procedural and documentary artistic practices. Poetic narratives that explore the history and confront the discontinuity and heterogeneity of the "official" story. Solo Swab intends to be a platform for thought and reflection on the current artistic production in dialogue with Latin American sociopolitical context FOCUS MAGREB Curated by Xavier de Luca, it arises from the finding of a lack of references by European societies in terms of social, cultural and artistic realities taking place in the Maghreb region. FOCUS MAGREB is designed as an open space, a meeting point, where, in addition to the five galleries from Spain and three Maghreb countries (Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia), a series of presentations of artists, curators and projects that are being made today in different cities of this region, will be presented thanks to the presence of six invited galleries. SWAB SEED David Armengol presents, for the second time at Swab, this space of visibility and debate focused on independent proposals of galleries located in Europe. They, from the power and instability given by relying only on themselves, have become one of the most successful and dynamic scenarios of the cultural scene of the city. DRAWING APPLICATIONS Curated by Mónica Alvarez Careaga, will show eight individual artistic projects that demonstrate the transformation in artistic matters of the uses traditionally attributed to the drawing, presented by eight of the best European galleries. MYFAF PROGRAMME 3 emerging contemporary art galleries, with less than two years of existence, who have never participated in an International Art Fair and present artists born after 1975. SWAB STATES Program curated by Carolina Diez-Cascón, artistic director of Swab America, where Nord- American galleries are selected considering their artistic proposal where we can perceive an evolution of their historical pop base evolved to a more eclectic and conceptual art. GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS Swab Barcelona 2016 is organized by Espacio de Arte Contemporáneo Diezy7 S.L. the participation of exhibitors in Swab Barcelona 2016, International Contemporary Art Fair. Is ruled by these Terms and Conditions. The organizers reserve the right, at any time and without special notification, to include or modificate additional conditions or regulations for the participation in Swab Barcelona 2016. ADMISSION CONDITIONS All exhibiting galleries must present an application form in accordance with the current contract. All applications will be reviewed by the selection committee, which holds the exclusive right to accept or reject any application. All decisions on acceptance will be final. The exhibitor is responsible for all given information to be correct and for all included artworks to be authentic. All payments related to the participation in the Fair must be made within the time period specified in the Application Form. Swab Barcelona reserves the right to refuse the entrance to any exhibitor that does not comply the terms and conditions. In such a case the exhibitor and his or her belongings will be removed from the fair. All the expenses related will be assumed by the gallery. The gallery will be responsible for all shipment, setting up and dismantling expenses. Swab Barcelona reserves the right to prohibit, correct or remove any exhibition, product or other material that is not suitable to the nature of the Show. EXHIBITIONS ADMISSION AND ACCEPTANCE Swab Barcelona 2016 Selection Committee, will be the unique and definitive jury for all the applications and has the right to accept or reject all on its own discretion. Swab Barcelona reserves the right to cancel at any time any inscription that has been previously accepted if false information is found or if the exhibitor do not complies with the participation conditions. The gallery accepts that once the inscription has been approved it will become valid under the present contract and all its articles The cancellation of the participation will imply a penalty of the 50% of the Price of the stand if done before the 10th of July 2016 and the 100% of the value of the stand if done after that date. It is mandatory to pay an inscription fee of 150 once the online application has been done. This amount will not be returned, in any case. The expenses of the transaction will be assumed by the exhibitor. The acceptance to participate in Swab Barcelona 2016 will be notified to the gallery by email after the 13th of May 2016. info@swab.es www.swab.es PAGE 6 / 8
BOOTH ALLOCATION The booth space will be assigned to each gallery by Swab Barcelona, conforming to the characteristics of the available stands. Swab Barcelona reserves the right to, at any moment; apply change of booth locations for reasons of available space or in complying with the security regulations as stated by Fira Barcelona. Swab Barcelona will be subject at all times to the rules and regulations of Fira Barcelona concerning walkways, emergency exits, capacity, etc. OCCUPATION SPACE & COEXHIBITORS In no instance shall the exhibitor be able to offer any part of the space assigned to him or her, to anybody other than those specified in the application form nor shall they present any article beside those which have been specified. If this is not fulfilled by the exhibitor he or she will be penalized with a fine equivalent to the theoretical price for space rental. The Exhibitor shall not sublet his/her booth either entirely or partially. The exhibitors are not allowed to display advertisement of any type within and around the booth, other than artworks that appear on the application form. The exhibitor may only set up and dismantle its stand only at scheduled times & dates. ADDITIONAL SERVICES AND FACILITIES Additional services such as: walls, light, 220v electronic outlet, telephone, extra painting and renting furniture could be purchased upon request to the construction company. CATALOGUE All participating galleries will receive one or two colour full pages in the Swab Barcelona Catalogue (depending on the Programme in which they participate). The images to be used in the publication must be sent by 18 th July 2015 in accordance with the JPG format, in high resolution, 300 dpi to galleries@swab.es SECURITY Swab Barcelona will provide a 24-hour security service during the fair. The service will run from the first day of installation and assembly of the fair until the disassembly is complete. However, Swab Barcelona will not be responsible for any theft of any property including any electronics, computers, or other personal items. For security reasons, once installation commences, nothing can be removed from the Fair Premises unless accompanied by the appropriate pass, until the dismantling is complete. Exhibitors will not be allowed to bring artworks onto the site during the show and until the disassembly starts. INSURANCE AND LIABILITY Swab Barcelona will not be held liable to any exhibitor for any direct, incidental or consequential damages or loss to the Exhibitor of his/her property articles, arising from or connected with the Exhibitor s participation. We recommend the exhibitor to obtain insurance coverage for damage or loss of any article at the show due to fire, theft, burglary, break-age, leakage and water damage, and the risks of transport to and from the show grounds. In any event, the Exhibitor assumes all risk of loss or damage to any of his/her articles. info@swab.es www.swab.es PAGE 8 / 8
ELECTRICITY, SERVICES, CLEAINING AND MAINTENANCE Swab Barcelona will provide all lighting for the fair also during the installation days in Fira Barcelona but will not be responsible for any loss or damage of property in the instance of an interruption of the service. No exhibitor has permission to install his or her own electrical services. Swab Barcelona has hired a daily cleaning service for the duration of the fair. Every exhibitor is responsible for the care and cleaning of his or her own stand. PREPARATION OF STANDS Swab Barcelona will provide the booth with the walls painted in white and with a basic cleaning made after building. If the exhibitor likes to have another colour he will be extra charged. Any change or modifications of the stand, as well as the deadline for its request have to be consulted with the construction company. REIMBURSMENT The payments will not be reimbursed unless Swab Barcelona is aware of and agrees to do so. No exhibitor will be allowed to use the stand until full payment of the entire fee detailed in the invoice is paid. Any additional expenses related to the stand must be settled before the opening date. If this is not complied with, the exhibitor will not be allowed to participate in the fair and the contract will be cancelled without reimbursement of any deposits made until that moment. JURISDICTION Both parties agree that in the case of any issues or controversy that may arise they will be dealt with under the jurisdiction of the city of Barcelona. The terms and conditions of the fair as explained above will result in a final and exclusive agreement between Swab Barcelona and the exhibitor. info@swab.es www.swab.es PAGE 9 / 8
