DISTRICT 7020 ROTARY FOUNDATION NEWSLETTER (MARCH 2011 VOL VI) _ Editorial... Humanitarian Grants Deadline:- The deadline for submitting matching grant applications to the Foundation for this year, is March 31, 2011. Monies are available so if you are thinking of accessing these funds then you have to hurry before MIDNIGHT MARCH 31. Applications during the last two weeks in March are usually heavy so there may be delays in processing. But you need not worry, just get those forms

in without further delay and make sure that your applications are filled in correctly or this will further delay the process and may well render your submission inoperable until next year. Make sure that reporting for all previously awarded grants from both sponsors, is current and compliant. If you are not sure, email your Grants Chair immediately. The Foundation code of Policies states, that in the financing of a matching grant, a significant portion of the contributions must come from outside the project country. However, the Foundation has seen an increase in the number of applications in which the host sponsor uses their portion to fund their own projects and ask the international partner to contribute just 30% At the October Trustees meeting they confirmed that the intent of the policy is for the international sponsor outside the project country to contribute at least 50% of funding. If you have any questions or concerns please email, the Grants Chair or myself immediately. PAG Bobby Young, Foundation Chair -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9.0 QUAKE ROCKS JAPAN. Last Friday we were all saddened by the news of this tragedy. The earthquake immediately triggered off a Tsunami which have taken its toll on our brothers and sisters in japan. TRF Chairman, Stenhammar, on behalf of the Trustees has established a Rotary Japan & Pacific Islands Disaster Recovery Fund. It stipulates the following conditions:- immediately establish a Rotary Japan and Pacific Islands 2011 Disaster Recovery Fund through TRF to be used in lieu of the regular World Fund match for Matching Grants and Global Grants for disaster recovery projects related to the earthquake and tsunami impacting districts in Japan and other Pacific island nations; this also applies to donations from corporations and non-rotarians. permit the fund to accept both cash contributions and DDF donations. clarify that TRF will not provide Paul Harris Fellow recognition for donations to the fund. confirm that all Matching Grants and Global Grants related to disaster recovery in Japan and other Pacific island nations must adhere to the policies and guidelines stipulated in the TRF Code of Policies and grant terms and conditions; this includes the restrictions on construction. request the general secretary to provide a recommendation for consideration at the April 2011 Trustees meeting in regards to how the disaster recovery funds will be utilized among the affected districts, e.g. even percentage split, weighted percentage split, first come/first served, etc. extend the 2011-12 Matching Grants application deadline to 30 April 2011 for grants related to these disaster recovery projects. waive the minimum percentage of funding requirement of the international (overseas) sponsors for Matching Grants related to these disaster recovery projects, thereby permitting districts in the affected areas to contribute more than 50% of the total DDF and/or cash designated for the grant project. He is calling on all Rotarians everywhere to contribute to the rebuilding process and to help bring stability to those lives that have been affected. We are in difficult times, but as ROTARIANS, we can never cease to help where help is needed as our motto says, "DOING GOOD IN THE WORLD". I know we can count on your support in this time of great need and in the true spirit of "BUILDING BRIDGES AND BRIDGING CONTINENTS".

Ambassadorial Scholarships An international education program for ambassadors of goodwill Your District Ambassadorial Scholarships Sub-Committee is appealing to clubs to establish active scholarship committees that will take interest not only in the Ambassadorial Scholarships program but also in seeking to exploit all the scholarships which are available in the Rotary world. There are many needy candidates throughout our District and we have a responsibility to give them a chance. We wish to remind all Club Presidents and Scholarship Committee Chairpersons that the deadline for the submission of Ambassadorial Scholarship applications for 2012 2013, is fast approaching. All applications must be submitted by clubs to the District Ambassadorial Scholarship Sub-Committee by July 31, 2011. This is a valuable opportunity that is available to young persons in our District and as Rotarians, it is our duty to promote it and encourage applications from suitable candidates.
