Introduction The members of the PEI French Language Health Services Network are happy to present to you the Island s very first French Language Health Services Directory. This resource was developed to facilitate and improve access to French services, offered by either the government or the private sector. We hope it will be useful to you in your quest for health services in French. To use this directory more effectively, we encourage you to use the table of contents and the glossary. All the information is listed in alphabetical order. Also, names are followed by the title or area of specialization. In the private practitioners section, the number preceding the name determines the level of services offered in French as follows: 1 Services always available in French; 2 Services available when bilingual staff on duty; 3 Limited Services (available upon request). In order for us to improve the directory and keep it up-to-date, we ask you to send us additional information regarding other services available in French. You will find a form for this purpose on page 26. -1-

Message from the PEI French Language Health Services Network (PEIFLHSN) The Prince Edward Island French Language Health Services Network (PEIFLHSN) was established in April 2003 to ensure the sharing of information between the various networks of the Acadian and Francophone community and government institutions. The Network includes key stakeholders of the Acadian and Francophone community as well as representatives of the health and social services sector. Its mission is to propose solutions to increase access to French language health and social services, thereby contributing to the complete implementation of the French Language Services Act. Access to health services in one s own language is not only a question of respect for the individual s culture. Several studies confirm that it is an essential aspect in the improvement of users health, which is why we deem it essential to be able to be understood and to understand. The Network supports the interventions or initiatives allowing improved French health service delivery. In this light, our team is proud to publish this directory developed to promote the health resources and services available in French and to increase their use. We therefore encourage you to use them when the occasion arises. With the collaboration of the Network team and its partners, we are convinced that the number of services included in this directory will rapidly increase. -2-

Message from the Ministers We want to congratulate all those involved with the development of the French Language Health Services Directory. Please take a few minutes to read through this publication and familiarize yourself with the bilingual public and private health care services available on Prince Edward Island. Hon. Elmer MacFadyen, Acadian and Francophone Affairs The mission of the French Language Health Services Network is to optimize available resources to improve access to health services offered in French. This publication will do just that as the Acadian and Francophone community will now be able to identify quickly and easily those health care professionals who provide service in French. Hon. Chester Gillan, Health and Social Services The Government of Prince Edward Island is pleased to be associated with the Prince Edward Island French Language Health Services Network. By combining our efforts, we can achieve our objective of improving the delivery of French language health services in our province. This initiative is a fine example of the spirit of collaboration that inspires partnerships and achieves results. We are confident that the directory will be a much appreciated resource and we encourage the Acadian and Francophone community to use the available French language health services. -3-
