Please encamp Your angels around their homes, businesses, communities, families, pets and livestock during this time of vulnerability. Keep them safe. Give them wisdom. Protect them. We pray in your Holy name. Fill your people with generosity and kindness, to reach out to others, and be the hands of Jesus to those in need. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen. Dear friends, Our Challenge It appears in this Sunday s Old Testament passage from the Book of Exodus that Moses is more compassionate than God. But God was only putting Moses to the test. He was seeing if Moses really understood that the children of Israel were his people no matter how grievously they might have sinned against him. The Apostle Paul is the greatest living example of why Christ loves the outsider. At one time Paul was a blasphemer, a persecutor, an arrogant snob, and a bitter unbeliever. But this consummate outsider became the greatest defender and interpreter of the faith. Christ sees a potential friend in every enemy. The greatest criticism of Jesus by his enemies was that this man welcomes sinners and eats with them. There is no greater evidence of their spiritual blindness than this criticism. The very mission of Jesus was to reach the outsider with his saving and forgiving love. Across the centuries Christ s church has been preoccupied with concerns about those who are already church members. For example, through most of history only those who receive the sacraments and affirm the creeds have been accepted as members of Christ s Body. But Jesus was more concerned about reaching outsiders than he was about the status of insiders. Jesus Christ befriended anyone and everyone who would let him be their friend. He did not let political ideology, immoral behavior, or infectious disease stand in his way of reaching the outsider. The world is full of lonely and hurting people who desperately need a cup of kindness. We know that Christ would go to them if he were on this earth today. Give us the courage and compassion to go to the outsider in his place. Have a good week! Love and prayers, Father Randy PARISH STAFF Parish Office: 343-6657 Fr. Randy M.
