GEM SPAIN 2006 Socioeconomic profile of the Spanish entrepreneur The entrepreneur's average age (42 to 37 years old) go down. The entrepreneurs monthly average income is medium-high (almost 2000 ) Increase of the percentage of university entrepreneurs and reduction of the entrepreneurs without studies The rate of closing of new companies goes down

GEM SPAIN 2006 In 2006, the 60,9 % of the entrepreneurs were men and the 39,1 % women The ratio woman / man in Spain of 0,68, corresponds to the international average (position no. 19 of 42 countries and 1st of the European Union) The great majority of the initiatives are micro enterprises Major contribution of the immigrant population to the Spanish TEA (Total Early Stage Entrepreneurial Activity), which has passed from 0,3 % in 2005 to 0,5 % in 2006

GEM SPAIN 2006 Funding of the Spanish Entrepreneur Process The average seed capital to start an enterprise is around 66,157 The funds contributed by the own entrepreneur, represent between 64 and 71 % depending on the year Increase of the percentage of entrepreneurs who contribute the totality of the capital (from 28 % to 40 %)

CETPAR PROGRAMME FOR TECHNOLOGY BUSINESS CREATION Pilot project developed in 2006 The Ministerio de Industria, Turismo y Comercio supported the Association of Science and Techonology Parks of Spain (APTE) to start 52 companies with high innovative component, in 5 Spanish parks: Boecillo (Valladolid), Malaga, Zamudio, Orense, Vallés The support to the selected new creation companies consists on: Support in business management in the charge of EOI (Business School), Financial support up to 24,000 non recoverable funds Participation loans from ENISA (Innovation National Support to Invercaria with seed capital funds

CETPAR PROGRAMME FOR TECHNOLOGY BUSINESS CREATION In 2007 it has became into a support programme to the Technology Parks to: Promote the creation of technological base innovative enterprises. Creation, amplification and improvement of incubators Support the enterprises located in the incubators. The grants range between 34,000 and 18,170 for each participant enterprise, that besides can receive participation loans 22 parks have been implied and the creation of 150 companies is foreseen

BIC SUCCESS OR FAILURE? Very different according to specific experiences Positive when it is inserted in global policy, with institutional support, carries out actuations of entrepreneurial culture promotion and looks for possible entrepreneurs in an actively way. Negative when there are isolated projects, without an institutional support that are mainly concerned about looking for financing to survive

PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP IMADE (Regional Development Agency of Madrid Region) IMADE gives: 1.- Agreement with Foundation for the Innovation Bankinter - financing (600.000 by year) - space for incubators The Foundation, profiting of its international entrepreneurial network, n gives : technical advice for the new entrepreneurs (supported by an israeli team specialised in supporting hi-tech new enterprises) contacts for market developments advise from experimented and successful entrepreneurs private funds that supplement public financing in the critical points.

The Regional Development Agency is focused in the Innovation oriented Incubators For the management of these Incubators there is an agreement with the La Salle Technological Park, that profiting of its international experience and international network, will supply a professional management and support for the New Technological Based Enterprises (NTBE)
