National Rebuilding Day
The Opportunity and The Commitment The Opportunity Each year on the last Saturday in April, National Rebuilding Day unites 2,000-plus volunteers from all walks of life to rehabilitate homes and community facilities, revitalizing Peninsula communities from Sunnyvale to Daly City. Every project that we undertake is unique. Each work site comes with a different history, specific needs, its own scope of work, and a dedicated volunteer team. Once deployed, we do everything from yard cleanup and painting to skilled plumbing, windows, electrical systems, and flooring repairs. We have even repaired or replaced roofs on homes and community facilities. As we work to revitalize Peninsula communities, we also work hard to provide a positive volunteer experience for our sponsors, volunteers, and community partners. The result of year-long planning, evaluating, training, and organizing is a lasting impression and life-changing experience for our volunteers and the families and individuals that we help. The Commitment Sponsors provide financial support along with a volunteer team that includes a team leader called a Volunteer Captain. They also provide a morning snack, water, and lunch for their team. Sponsors have the option of providing their own Construction Captain should they have an interested skilled volunteer to plan and lead their group s repair activities. Rebuilding Together Peninsula is committed to providing a meaningful, well-organized experience. Staff will identify your project and train and support your volunteers throughout the entire process. At the end of the day, Rebuilding Together Peninsula provides a picnic celebration for all volunteers. Sponsorship levels are designed to meet the needs of every sponsor. While it is common for sponsors to provide project volunteers it is not mandatory. Sponsors may provide funding for a specific project or for our NRD program to target where repairs are most needed. Kudos to Our Past Project Sponsors Rebuilding Together Peninsula is fortunate to have fantastic sponsors who give generously and make volunteerism a part of their core values. Participating firms span a broad range of sizes and come from almost every industry to help drive positive change in their communities. Role Definitions Construction Captain (CC) Acts as the project manager on assigned site prior to National Rebuilding Day (NRD). They are responsible for planning and managing a safe, quality project that provides a meaningful and enjoyable experience for both the volunteers and the homeowner or community facility site representative. They are also responsible for the management of site-related paperwork, including the scope of work, order forms, and submission of all receipts in a timely manner to RTP. The CC does not have to be an employee of your organization, and can be a spouse/significant other, relative, friend, etc. with construction knowledge. Volunteer Captain (VC) Serves as logistics manager. They collaborate with their partnered Construction Captain(s) to organize the project, identify a supply runner, recruit volunteers, manage all details concerning volunteers, communicate with the homeowner or community facility site representative, organize on-site food, and make sure the project runs smoothly. All of this entails the management of volunteer paperwork, including waivers and t-shirt orders. On NRD, the VC ensures that all volunteers check-in properly and have an overall positive experience while helping the CC complete on-site repairs. Sponsorship Representative (SR) Acts as the main contact between RTP and the sponsoring organization. They will identify a Volunteer Captain for their organization s assigned project site, if not acting as the VC. The SR will ensure the sponsor agreement is submitted by the given due date and the financial commitment is fulfilled by their organization.
