Training Objectives: As a result of this instruction, the student will be able to: These techniques are lifesaving measures that you can use to help yourself or another officer in a critical incident prior to arrival of Emergency Medical Personnel. This is a basic knowledge course developed with assistance of emergency medical personnel and only provides simple first responder procedures in the use of the officer s individual trauma kit. None of this instruction should replace or be a substitute for actual medical training. Page 1 of 4 Course Title: Tactical Field Care for Wounded Officers and civilians -2016 (Tactical Treatment of Gunshot Wounds) INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES: Date: October 26, 2015 The course will provide emergency first aid tactics using an individual trauma plate kit and trauma blow-out kit designed for the patrol officer. I. How will the four guiding principles be met: Ethics, Law, Fitness & Community Policing? Law Enforcement Officers are trained to prepare themselves to deal with emergencies. This course will provide them tools and training to help themselves and community in the event they are seriously injuried in the field. II. What will the student have learned at the conclusion of this block of instruction? Upon completion of this block of instruction each student will be able to provide emergency field care to a wounded officer or community using the issued individual officer trauma plate kit and trauma blow-out kit.

INTRODUCTION (Overview of the Topic) This course will provide emergency first aid tactics using an individual trauma plate kit or trauma blow-out kit designed for the patrol officer. These techniques are lifesaving measures that you can use to help yourself or others in a critical incident prior to arrival of Emergency Medical Personnel. This is a basic knowledge course developed with assistance of emergency medical personnel and provides simple first responder and tactical field care procedures in the use of the officer s individual trauma kit s. None of this instruction should replace or be a substitute for actual medical training. II. KEY ISSUES: Contents of the Individual Officer s Trauma Kit ( Blow Out Kit ) Key Points to Care Under Fire The ABC s of First Aid Dressings Tourniquets T/K Sucking chest wounds Eviscerations Blunt force trauma Burns Extraction Techniques III. TOPIC PRESENTATION/NOTES: Each student will receive instruction on each item of the individual officer trauma kit s and the proper use of the kits. They will be given a training kit and required to practice applying items in the kit to show that they understand and can properly apply the proper medical care.

SUMMARY / REVIEW: Each area of instruction will be reviewed to insure that all students understand and have a working knowledge on the following items: Contents of the Individual Officer s Trauma Kit ( Blow Out Kit ) Key Points to Care Under Fire The M.A.R.C.H. of First Aid Basic Injuries Lacerations and Bleeding Dressings Tourniquets T/K Wounding Factors in GSW Penetrating Wounds Sucking Chest Wound Eviscerations Impaled Objects Blunt Force/Trauma Injuries Burn Injuries Extraction Techniques Each student will receive an individual kit prior to leaving the class. II. CLOSING STATEMENT: This course will provide you with information and equipment to provide lifesaving assistance to yourself or others in the event of a traumatic injury in which emergency medical assistance may be several minutes away.
