(435) 797-2066 Tennis Aggie Olympic Sport Update Women's Volleyball Contact: Doug Hoffman (435) 797-3714 Utah State (ranked 19th in the country in the latest AVCA/USA Today Coaches' Poll) will play its final two home matches of the season this weekend versus No. 12 Pacific and No. 18 Long Beach State on Nov. 2 and 4 at 7 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The Aggies will be looking to go undefeated at home as USU is currently 9-0 on the season at the Spectrum. Only two other teams have ever gone undefeated at home, as the 1978 team went 11-0, and the '79 team went 18-0. Pacific is currently 18-3 overall and in first-place in the Big West with a 10-1 league mark. The Tigers lone league loss of the year was at UC Santa Barbara in four games. UOP has won 10 matches in a row and leads the all-time series with USU 21-4 including a three-game win earlier this year in Stockton. The last time USU defeated Pacific was in 1981. Long Beach State is 15-7 on the year and 6-5 in league play. LBSU defeated USU earlier this year in Long Beach in three games. The last time Utah State defeated Long Beach State was in 1982 and trail in the alltime series 6-21. The Aggies have lost its last 17 matches in a row to both the Tigers and 49ers. Utah State went 2-1 last week with victories over Idaho (15-11, 15-8, 15-5) and Cal Poly (16-18, 15-10, 15-10, 15-5), and a three-game loss at No. 14 UC Santa Barbara by scores of 8-15, 4-15, 9-15. Against the Vandals, seniors Amy Crosbie, and Denae Mohlman had 12 kills apiece, while fellow senior Melissa Schoepf added 10 as USU hit.270 as a team. At Santa Barbara, USU hit just.171 as a team, while the Gauchos hit.319. Junior Michelle Matheson led the Aggies with 11 kills and four blocks, while sophomore Rochelle Currier had 10 kills and six digs. Versus Cal Poly, Crosbie had a team-high 25 kills, while junior Chelsi Neves had a career-high 24 digs as Utah State recorded its first ever win at Cal Poly. In all, five Aggies had 10 or more kills and 10 plus digs in the match, with four of those players recording double-doubles. The Aggies hit.256 in the contest, while the Mustangs hit.204.

Women's Soccer Contact: Laurie Cannon (435) 797-2066 This week Utah State's women's soccer team concludes the 2000 season on the road as it travels to Boise, Idaho to take on Boise State Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. Boise State is currently 4-10-2 on the season and 1-5-1 in conference action. Over the weekend the Broncos tied Long Beach State 0-0 and were shutout by Idaho 2-0. BSU is led by Brittany Zoellner who leads the team in goals (9) and points (19). All-time USU is 2-0 against the Broncos. The Aggies split the past weekends action defeating Pacific 2-1 in double overtime Friday, and then falling to Long Beach State 2-1 also in double overtime Sunday afternoon. Against Pacific junior Carrie Niederhauser scored for the first time this season and sophomore Jessica Ebner turned in the game-winning goal to deliver the Aggies a victory. Senior Jayme Gordy scored the Aggies lone goal in its loss to Long Beach State. Fellow senior Ashley Cracroft was credited with two assists over the weekend, earning one in each game.

Sarah Lowe and Jocee Mason lead the team in individual wins with four each. Senior Andy Madersbacher led the Aggies to the fourth round of the Region Rolex 7 Tournament held in Las Vegas, Nev. this past weekend. Madersbacher was the only Aggie to advance in the field that included 16 universities. Freshman Jonah Nelson won a consolation match, as did Tad Hinze. Cross Country Contact: Wade Denniston (435) 797-2066 The Utah State men s cross country tied for second place with UC Santa Barbara at the Big West Championships this past Saturday in Santa Barbara, Calif. Sophomore Steve Prescott led the Aggies with a third-place finish by finishing the race at 25:33.4. Junior Mitch Zundel also ran well as he finishing in fourth with a time of 25:33.5 The women harriers, who finished in fourth place, were led by senior Rebekah Thornley s fifth-place finish at 18:54.0.
