SGROUP EUROPEAN UNIVERSITIES' NETWORK The SGroup European Universities Network (SGroup) is a non-for-profit organisation founded in 1989 composed of over 30 higher education institutions from 15 European countries. SGroup members The SGroup is a dynamic platform for modern, internationally orientated universities with the aim of expanding collaboration opportunities in education and research through the transfer of knowledge and development of strategic alliances. 2

SGROUP EUROPEAN UNIVERSITIES' NETWORK The SGroup mission is based on four core areas of co-operation: SGroup members internationalisation strategy, academic collaboration, academic mobility, and transfer of knowledge. The SGroup is a network with over 25 years of experience in university collaboration within Europe and beyond 3

OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE IN ACADEMIC MOBILITY The SGroup has been involved in most European Community mobility programmes such as ERASMUS, ALβAN, LEONARDO DA VINCI, LINGUA, TEMPUS, LLP, and other. These exchanges have involved about 4000 students. SGroup has developed relations with a number of other regions of the world including the USA (e.g. Agreement with the University of California at Berkeley), Latin America (Alβan Programme) and Africa(UNESCO Unitwin Chairs). 4

OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE IN ACADEMIC MOBILITY The SGroup participated also in the SIGMA "Group of Groups" European Universities' Network Project. The representatives of the six Groups of European Universities (COIMBRA Group, COMNET, EUROMETROPOLE, SGROUP, UNICA, UTRECHT Networks) agreed to request support from the European Commission in order to participate in the "assessment of the results of cooperation activities carried out between European Universities - in particular within the framework of the ERASMUS Programme". 5

OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE IN ACADEMIC MOBILITY The SGroup has developed its own independent academic mobility schemes for both students as well as academic and administrative staff. Some university members of SGroup have played an outstanding role in mobility programmes and their participation has been distinguished with European awards such as Erasmus prizes. 6

INTER-CONTINENTAL ACADEMIC EXCHANGE PROGRAMME - ICON The ICon Programme is an international mobility initiative between higher education institutions belonging to the SGroup European Universities Network (SGroup) and their partner institutions overseas (from Latin America, Eastern Partnership and China to SGroup members and reverse) The Programme aims at the exchange of knowledge and experience between regions through academic mobility at all levels: Undergraduate students Graduate students Doctoral candidates SGroup role: Global Coordinator for Latin America and Eastern Partnership 9 Postdocs Academic Staff Administrative Staff

HOW TO COLLABORATE WITH SGROUP? Full membership Universities from across Europe which have signed the SGroup Charter Entry to this class of membership will be reserved to universities offering PhD or equivalent degree courses and endorsement by the General Assembly Associate membership Universities from non-european countries Entry to this classof membership will be by invitation of the Executive Committee and endorsement by the General Assembly 12
