Town Office Hours Town Meetings, Town Business, Elections and Selectmen s meetings are held at the Town Hall, 1235 Great Pond Road (the Washington School) 584-5860 Town Office hours are: first and third Wednesdays of each month from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The Selectmen meet from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Notices of upcoming events and meetings are posted on the bulletin board outside the Town Hall. Town Meeting/Voting Our annual Town Meeting is held the second Monday in September, at 7:00 PM. It is an Open Town Meeting. Voting for Maine State and Federal Elections is also held at the Town Hall. The Polls are open from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM excepting special elections as posted. To register to vote contact the Town Clerk/Registrar of Voters. Emergency Services Emergency services are accessed by dialing 911. This goes through the Hancock County Sheriff s Office in Ellsworth. We have local fire protection services through the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department. The AVFD also has trained first responders to act in Medical Emergencies until the Ambulance and Emergency Medical Technicians can reach the scene. Animal Welfare If you have an animal welfare concern, you can contact our Animal Control Officer. Wild animal problems may be addressed to the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Service: 941-4440 (Warden Service) or 287-8000 (Augusta) State of Maine law requires that all dogs be vaccinated against Rabies, and be registered yearly in the town of their residence. You may register your dog(s) by contacting the Town Clerk. Registrations are valid from the date of registration to January 31 st of each year. Schools Our children in grades PK-8 attend the Airline Community School on Great Pond Road in Aurora. High School Students attend either Brewer High School, John Bapst or Hampden Academy. Students may make arrangements to attend either Ellsworth High School or Bangor High School. It is appreciated by all when trash is contained so that animals can t get into it. There is an annual White Goods Disposal held usually in June. Watch for the notice of this on the Town Bulletin Board. For Hazardous Waste Disposal ( television sets, computers, computer monitors, NiCad batteries, etc.) Contact the Town Officials for more information.
Great Pond Recycles Second Friday of each Month Plastics: #2, rinsed, no covers Tin and Aluminum Cans: cleaned, labels may be left on Glass : clear, rinsed, no covers Paper: Newspapers, Magazines, Phone Books, bundled. Dry Typing Paper, Office Paper, Envelopes (without windows) Cardboard: Corrugated (flattened) (no Taiwanese) Property Taxes Town of Great Pond Property taxes are due annually in two payments. Questions about taxes may be directed to the Treasurer/Tax Collector. Vehicle Registrations The Tax Collector/ Treasurer handles these Registrations as an agent for the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles. You can get your complete car registration done at the Town Office. Renewals may be done on-line at Maine.gov ATV, Boat or Snowmobile Registrations and Hunting/Fishing Licenses The Town Clerk handles these transactions. These can be done at the Town Office, by appointment, or on-line. All Inland Fisheries and Wildlife transactions, including boats, may now be done on-line at www.maine.gov/ifw Properly licensed ATVs are allowed by local ordinance to travel on the roads in the Town of Great Pond. All vehicles are expected to follow the speed limits set and the rules of the road.
