June 2011 Block Training 6/14/11 8:00 am Legal Updates 4 hours Legal Studies This training addresses legal issues and updates (2009, 2010 & 2011) which affect police officers. Academy Staff Instructor $40 6/14/11 1:00 pm Avoiding Racial Profiling Through Bias Awareness 6/15/11 8:00 am Surviving Off Duty Encounters 1 hour Legal Studies & 3 hours Technical Studies This 4 hour training addresses legal, tactical and practical concerns for surviving an off duty encounter. Academy Instructor Gary Hacker $40 6/15/11 1:00 pm Interview and Interrogations 2 hours Legal Studies & 2 hours Interpersonal Studies A 4 hour block of training imparts tried and true interrogation methods for any detective or officer during the investigation of a crime. Academy Staff Instructor $40 July 2011 Block Training 7/13/11 8:00 am Human Trafficking 4 hours Interpersonal Skills This training discusses current issues regarding criminal human trafficking & how police officers can identify it. $40 7/13/11 1:00 pm High Risk Vehicle Stops 2 hours Technical Skills & 2 hours Skill Development A 4 hour block of training which imparts officer safety issues while conducting a high risk or felony car stop. Officers will utilize soft air pellet guns. Protective eye wear and body armor will be provided. Academy Staff Instructor $40 7/14/11 8:00 am Stress and the Police Family 4 hours Interpersonal Studies This course discusses how stress affects the police officer and their family and imparts ways to minimize the effects of stress. Gary Hacker, Assistant Chief of Training $40 7/14/11 1:00 pm Avoiding Racial Profiling Through Bias Awareness This training discusses the racial profiling issues for Missouri officers and how to avoid complaints through bias awareness. This course meets the required 3 hours of racial profiling. $30 August 2011 Block Training 8/18 & 19 8 am 5 pm Criminal Investigations for New Detectives 12 hours Technical Skills, This two day course is designed to help new detectives become experienced investigators from felony crime scenes to interviewing and interrogation. It will also cover preparing a case for the prosecutor s office. Instructor is Investigations Commander Ken Bergman, Independence Police Department $150

8/24/11 8:00 am Survival Writing for the Street Officer 4 hours Technical Skills This training will help any police officer write better reports and show how to cover issues which are of primary concern for an officer, helping the officer to survive court and legal issues afterward. Academy Staff Instructors $40 8/24/11 1:00 pm Officer Involved Shootings 4 hours Technical Skills We will address the physical and physiological reactions of a gunfight during and after the confrontation. Instructor Gary Hacker $40 8/25/11 8:00 am Stopping a Suicide Attacker This training will assist officers in physically indentifying and controlling a potential terrorist or armed subject. Many of the techniques come from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). Instructors: Gary Hacker and Rusty Sullivan $40 8/25/11 1:00 pm Burglary & Robbery Investigation Part I 4 hours Technical Skills This training will assist any investigator or street officer in handling a burglary and/or robbery investigation; from the initial response to conducting neighborhoods, developing leads, documenting confessions and preparing the case for the prosecutor. Captain Ken Bergman (Independence Police Department) will lead this course. $40 September 2011 Block Training 9/21/11 8:00 am Search and Seizure Updates and Refresher 4 hours Legal Issues We will address updates on warranted, exigent and nonfourth amendment searches, stop and frisk, searches incident to arrest, and much more. 9/21/11 1:00 pm Weapon Retention and Disarming Long Gun and Handgun This is a training that covers weapon retention and disarming with the handgun and long gun. Officers will also learn tactical ground fighting measures. International Police Trainers: Gary Hacker and Rusty Sullivan $40 9/22/11 8:00 am The Exemplary Officer 4 hours Interpersonal Studies This training will help officers plan their career and impart ways to attain professional goals. Incorporating core values into the way an officer police themselves and build core values and better partnerships with the community they serve. Academy Staff Instructor $40 9/22/11 1:00 pm FATS/Firearms Survival This training imparts tactics and techniques to winning a gunfight. Officers will participate in video scenarios. This course meets the Missouri Post required hours for firearms training. $40 October 2011 Block Training 10/19/11 8:00 am Officer Involved Shooting 4 hours Interpersonal Studies This training focuses on the physiological reactions during a shooting and the effects of the lethal confrontation on an officer after a shooting. From Afghanistan to Central Africa and many places in the Middle East children are being trained as soldiers and terrorists. What impact does this have on American Law Enforcement?
