We are in the process of gearing up for a great school year at Donnell. It will be here before you know it. We want to welcome all of the incoming 6 th graders to their official start as middle school students. On August 9 th we will have an orientation for students only from 10:00 a.m. to noon. They will spend time with their teachers, participate in a scavenger hunt to become familiar with the building and have an chance to practice opening their lockers, walk through their schedule and enjoy hot dogs, chips and drink. 6 th grade parents are invited to a meeting in the gym at 5:30 that evening, and you will have an opportunity to walk through the building with a guided tour from your son/daughter. I also want to welcome all of our 7 th & 8 th graders back to Donnell. You are invited to pick up your schedule in the gym on August 10 th in the evening: 7 th grade will start @ 5:30 p.m. and 8 th grade @ 7:00 p.m. If you are not available on the dates listed below, you may pick up your student s schedule any day after. We will have some new faces on the Donnell teaching staff. Welcome 6 th grade Math teacher, Nicole Sullivan. She taught 5 th grade at Lincoln. Melissa Wilson will be an intervention specialist/hearing impaired teacher for 6 th & 8th grade Reading/Language Arts. We are very excited to have both of them joining the staff at Donnell. We have some exciting changes in store for this school year and we can t wait to share when the students return. I hope all of our Donnell families have an opportunity to share some summer fun before the school year starts. Have a wonderful rest of the summer, and we will see you soon! Please go to our website at: donnell.fcs.org Opportunities for Parents SCHOOL FEES Sixth Grade Fees $60.00 Seventh Grade Fees $60.00 Bus riders are dropped off on Baldwin Ave. Car riders should be dropped off on Lime Street. Please do not pull through the parking lot when dropping off students. Eighth Grade Fees $60.00 Payable online via EZ Pay or in the office by cash or check made out to: Findlay City Schools. WHAT IF I AM ABSENT? The automated attendance line must be called before 8:00 a.m. if your child will not be in school or will be late. 1-844-305-3755 Send in a note with them if they are leaving early for an appointment. All absences must be covered by a note. Directory Information/Photos Release Students are featured on our Facebook page in groups at sporting events, camps, etc. If you do not want your child s picture or public information shared you must notify the school in writing before October 1st each year. (Please refer to the student handbook for what Ohio Law constitutes as public information.) MAGAZINE SALE KICKOFF Don t forget that Donnell s annual fundraiser will begin on September 25th. Our PTO sponsors this fundraiser and proceeds go directly to Donnell students.

Teacher Open House Open House will be held on 8/29/17 at 5:30 pm in the Gym to meet our Donnell teachers. Students are welcome to attend but not required. More information will be sent home with our students after school begins. CELL PHONES *Cell phones must remain TURNED OFF and in the students LOCKERS during the school day. Students may also bring them to the main office. PTO Our parent/teacher organization is a vital part of our school. Every parent is invited and encouraged to participate. Meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. in our building once a month. Schedules will be available online or in our daily email. 7th Grade Outdoor School Students will be spending 3 days and 2 nights at Camp Berry in October. They will experience team building activities as well as science and math activities. More information will be sent home with students. Volunteers to help are always welcomed! Join the Band at Donnell The Donnell Bands are accepting new students to join Band for the 2017/2018 school year. Students going into 6 th Grade can join the Concert Band in the fall and start learning from scratch. Students going into 7 th & 8 th grade that have not been in Band and would like to join please contact Mr. Sheehe. Those who were in Band last year will be automatically re-registered for Band this year. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Sheehe at bsheehe@findlaycityschools.org or 419-350-4718.

Progress Book-Grade Viewing Access Parent and student usernames and passwords DO NOT CHANGE from year to year. Please use the same login and password you set up last year. If you never set up your account, please go to the link Check Student Grades at our website : donnell.fcs.org Secretaries do not have passwords. If you have forgotten yours or have trouble with access, please use the link Progress Book Assistance and our tech support will be able to help you. STUDENT ACCEPTABLE USE AND INTERNET SAFETY POLICY Students are encouraged to use the school s computers/network and the Internet connection for teacher-assigned, educational work. In order to continue enjoying access to the network, each student must take responsibility for appropriate use of this privilege. Any parent/guardian of a student under the age of 18 may direct that the student not be given access to the Internet. An opt out form for this purpose may be obtained from any school office in the school district. Remember to follow the dress code outlined in the student handbook! If in doubt, change it out. Immunization Reminder Per the Ohio Department of Health, 7th graders will need 1 dose of Meningococcal vaccine in addition to the TDap prior to the first day of school. Please contact your health care provider or Hancock County Public Health @ 419-424-7441 to schedule an appointment. It is encouraged to schedule early as appointments may be difficult to schedule in July and August. No student will be permitted to remain in school for more than 14 days from the start of school or the date of initial entry into the school unless the parent/guardian provides written evidence that the child has been immunized.

Only $50 gets the entire family into games. (members must reside in the same household) See last page of this newsletter to order yours. They will be available to purchase at games also. District Athletic Passes will also be available. They will give you access to middle school and high school games at a discounted rate.
