Training Requirements Dental Nurses must be registered with the GDC. If not registered or registration has lapsed it is not legal for a dental nurse to practice within dentistry or within a EDDN capacity within the Childsmile Programme.

Training Portfolio Overall training portfolio to achieve a pass mark 248/500 (Open Book Assignment/OSCE will contribute towards pass mark) Overall credit pass achieves a minimum of 70% or more in each module (Open Book Assignment/OSCE not included in credit pass mark).

Time Limit Non return of Training Portfolio will result in fail and educational closure Extensions will only be granted in exceptional circumstance and must be applied for in writing by letter or email to tutor 7 days prior to closing date for portfolio return. Portfolio Return Down load your portfolio from your portal account and save to your computer All answers should be typed as one continues document following each question - otherwise it will be rejected Do not use large graphics in portfolio To email your portfolio you should zip the file by right clicking and choosing - send to zip NES aim to mark portfolios within 30 days of submission. Once marked you will receive comments sheets and certificate via email It is your responsibility to print off certificate

Plagiarism If you submit work that is not your own, without referencing or letting the marker know, you are committing plagiarism This will result in Educational Closure and a failure letter will be issued to you.

Training Payments to General Dental Practices On completion of training the Dental Nurse will receive an email stating the Childsmile Training Claim Form is available to be completed. The next time DN logs into Portal the "ibooklet" menu will have an additional option which will allow DN to complete the Childsmile Training Claim Form asking them to verify training attendance and give contact details of the Dental Practice. Once the from has been completed and returned to NES, this information will be forwarded to Practitioner Services and the Practice will receive 540.00 remuneration in monthly Schedule for releasing the Dental Nurses onto training. www.portal.scot.nhs.uk
