Department of Veterans Affairs (EES) presents Course Number: 04.B.ST.CAR.HCG.A HYPERTENSION CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINES REVISIONS: PART IV (VIDEO TAPE OF ORIGINAL SATELITE BROADCAST - 60 MIN.) Place: Purpose: Your local facility. Location for viewing a recording is at viewer discretion and as your facility's resources permit. This presentation will introduce the revised VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) for the prevention, detection, evaluation and treatment of hypertension. Additionally, it will compare the VA/DoD revisions with the JNC 7 guidelines, explain the emphasis on thiazide diuretics, and report on the status of antihypertensive drug use in VA. This broadcast is a standalone educational activity, requiring participant viewing only. Outcome Objectives: At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to: 1. describe the revisions of the VA/DoD clinical practice guidelines on hypertension 2. explain the differences between the VA/DoD and JNC 7 guidelines 3. discuss the emphasis on and current use of thiazide diuretics in VA 4. recognize the CPG tools that will be available to support clinicians in the management of hypertension Target Audience: Accreditation/ Approval: Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other primary care and DoD clinical providers. Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) The VA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) VA is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Continuing Education Credit: Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) The VA designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.0 hour in category 1 credit towards the American Medical Association Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity. This activity is certified to provide continuing education credit to practitioners seeking category 1 AMA PRA credit when viewed live, scheduled rebroadcast or a recording. American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) VA designates this educational activity for 1.2 contact hours in continuing nursing education. This activity is certified to provide credit to practitioners seeking ANCC credit when viewed live or scheduled rebroadcast or a recording. Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) The VA is accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education as a provider of continuing pharmaceutical education Program # 610-999-04-041-H01. This program is accredited for 1.0 contact hour. The maintains responsibility for the program. A statement of credit will be awarded to participants and accreditation records will be on file at the Employee Education System. In order to receive continuing pharmaceutical education credit, participants must attend 100% of the program and complete an evaluation form. Statements of credit will be mailed to participants within six weeks following conclusion of the program. The Employee Education System maintains responsibility for the program. A certificate of attendance will be awarded to participants and records will be on file at the.
