2018 DCA ANNUAL CONVENTION FEBRUARY 25 - MARCH 2 MONARCH BEACH RESORT DANA POINT, CA

2

The Tuscan-inspired Monarch Beach Resort reopened its door in 2016 after the year-long completion of a $40 million comprehensive renovation that introduces guests to a reimagined luxury resort destination. Monarch Beach Resort, Orange County, California, is an AAA Five-Diamond awarded luxury resort recognized among the best in the world. The hotel debuted the region s first Miraval Life in Balance Spa designed to awaken the senses, create balance and promote a sense of well-being. Few resorts can boast such a beautiful location or breathtaking views and even fewer still can claim a level of uncompromising and extraordinary service that anticipates your every need. Enjoy the rich amenities including 18-hole oceanfront golf course with panoramic views; the private Monarch Bay Club, nestled along one of the most exclusive beaches in Southern California; the epicurean experiences created by award-winning chef Michael Mina; and relax at one of the new infinity-edge pools dedicated to sunning and lounging. 3 Each year the DCA Annual Convention brings together several hundred contractor and associate members in a relaxed yet business-oriented environment. The convention is not only the major governance meeting of the year, it includes the full spectrum of committee meetings to plan the future direction of DCA and discuss new programs. It is also the time when the DCA Dale Michels and Curtis Allen Scholarships are presented along with the Arthur T. Everham Safety Awards. We will also have an outstanding list of speakers who will inform, educate and inspire. When the day s work is done, there will be many opportunities to explore the beauty and fun of the southern California experience.

Opening Keynote Breakfast Tuesday, February 27 8:00 am 10:15 am Mike Rowe Dirty Jobs, mikeroweworks.com Mike Rowe is a media personality primarily known for creating and starring in the series Dirty Jobs, Somebody s Gotta Do It, and Returning the Favor. In 2008, Rowe launched a website, mikerowe- WORKS.com, which is focused on the decline in the blue-collar trades and the crumbling state of the infrastructure. A trade resource center has been launched and provides information, resources, and forums for people interested in learning about or pursuing a career in the trades. 7 The mikeroweworks Foundation started the Profoundly Disconnected campaign to challenge the absurd belief that a four-year degree is the only path to success. The skills gap is here, and if we don t close it, it ll swallow us all. Rowe describes himself as a cheerleader for both blue-collar workers and white-collar workers, hoping to promote individual initiative and positive thinking throughout the U.S. economy.

Workforce Development Meeting Tuesday, February 27 10:30 am 12:00 pm Tim Lawrence Executive Director SkillsUSA Group Breakfast Wednesday, February 28 8:00 am 9:45 am Kechi Okwuchi Angels Among Us 8 SkillsUSA s mission is to empower its members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American Citizens. Having been involved with SkillsUSA for most of his life, Tim Lawrence firmly believes that being involved in technical education and joining SkillsUSA in high school set his course for a successful future. He worked in both labor and management positions in the manufacturing industry for nine years while continuing his education, graduating Magna Cum Laude from James Madison University with a degree in Administration and Training. In this position, Tim feels he works for the students and teachers of America s technical education system. He also feels a strong alliance between DCA & SkillsUSA is good for DCA member companies and the SkillsUSA students it supports. Kechi Okwuchi is the beautiful personification of faith and strength who has a voice of an angel. She was also one of the 2017 finalists on America s Got Talent. But before she was an accomplished student and singer, tragedy struck. Kechi is one of two survivors from a plane crash in Nigeria that killed her fellow classmates. With her body covered in burns and a long road of recovery, Kechi used music as an escape. The plane crash claimed the lives of 107 passengers in 2005. She has had over 100 surgeries as a result of the burns she suffered on over 65 percent of her body from the crash. Kechi will inspire us with her story and delight us with her beautiful and extraordinary voice. She tells all who will hear her What happened to me was horrible. But I refuse to let it define me. Instead, I draw strength from it.

Closing Keynote Breakfast Thursday, March 1 8:00 am 10:00 am Mark Steyne Author, writer, and political commentator He s brash, brilliant, and drawn to controversy like a moth to a flame. For decades, Mark Steyn has dazzled readers and listeners around the world with his raucous wit and brutal honesty. He has written five books, some of which have topped several best sellers lists. He writes and talks about a large landscape of life while never letting the political correctness police get in his way.
