The University of Phoenix, represented by Lori Santiago, received the Adelante Award to the corporate partner of the year. The university has been a bronze member Mayor Taylor with Adelante Award recipient University of Phoenix Lori Santiago and Sarita Diaz Pilkington Vice Chair Person of TTHCC. Mayor Taylor, Linda Williamson with the Bendaña Award Recipient Rooney Holdings, Inc., Xavier Neira. of the Chamber since 2003. Santiago is a past chair of the Hispanic Chamber, and served as President during 2006. Under Santiago s leadership, the University of Phoenix sponsors and operates the Hispanic Chamber s Small Business Academy. Now in its 3rd year, the Academy is an eight-month, 16-session course that covers everything from financing and business plans, to business law and marketing. The courses are offered in both Spanish and English. Xavier Neira accepted the Bendaña Amigo Award on behalf of Rooney Holdings Inc. The award is given for outstanding community leadership by illustrating the importance of embracing Tulsa s Hispanic community. The award goes to a company that is active in the Hispanic Chamber and its programs, and has a demonstrated record of working with Hispanic businesses both locally and nationally. This year there was more participation of Hispanic business owners thanks to Francisco Treviño, new Executive Director of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. For me it was very important to see more Hispanics at the Excelencia Awards said Francisco Treviño I want them to see what we are doing, because after all what we do here at the Hispanic Chamber, we do for them.
