The Canadian Nursing Students Association (CNSA) The Canadian Nursing Students Association (CNSA) is the national voice of Canadian nursing students. For over thirty years, the CNSA has represented the interests of nursing students to federal and provincial governments and other nursing organizations. The CNSA, with nearly 25,000 members, is an affiliate member of the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) and Practical Nurses Canada as well as an associate member of the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU). The CNSA has a reciprocal relationship with Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) and is a co-chair of the New Health Professionals Network (NHPN). Our goal is to increase the legal, ethical, professional, and educational aspects, all of which are integral parts of nursing. The CNSA is actively dedicated to the positive promotion of nurses and the nursing profession as a whole. The CNSA is guided by the following underlying principles and objectives: 1. Provide a communication link among nursing students across Canada, recognizing the specific language needs of our bilingual country. 2. Act as the official voice of nursing students. 3. Provide a medium through which members can express their opinions on nursing issues. 4. Encourage participation in professional liberal education. 5. Provide a liaison with other organizations concerned with nursing. 6. Increase the awareness of both the existence and the need for nursing research. These objectives provide guidance to the CNSA yet are flexible enough to allow the Association to respond to current issues and events. In addition to this, there is a vision for the CNSA, which includes the concepts and goals of Professionalism, Leadership, Visibility, Education and Advocacy. Activities of the Association have a relationship in some way to either the objectives or vision of the CNSA. This allows for a wide variety of activities within the CNSA. CNSA NATIONAL CONFERENCE 2011 The 40th Annual National Conference of the Canadian Nursing Students Association will be held in the heart of Hamilton, Ontario at the Hamilton Convention Centre. Over 600 nursing students will gather from across Canada to participate in professional development and networking with peers, presenters and potential employers. The theme of this year s conference is Discover the Opportunities, Find Your Passion. The changing dynamics in health care today are putting pressure on our health care system. With expanding scopes of practice and greater demands needed in all sectors, nursing is evolving. This year's theme will allow participants to explore the many opportunities available to them, and in doing so, find their passion. Key topics to be explored at the conference include nursing leadership development; new graduate transition; politics and health care; interprofessionalism; and the many diverse fields within nursing, such as inner-city, outpost and international. These unique topics will lead nursing students from across the country to discover several prosperous and growing avenues in the nursing profession. By opening the doors to discover contemporary issues, diverse areas, and endless opportunities for inspiration and education, students will uncover their potential, and start fulfilling it now!
