Scholarship Program Rationale The Ajyal International School in association with Bin Omeir Educational is proud to offer academically outstanding students, a fully-funded, scholarship program. The Ajyal International School Scholarship Program aims to encourage and recognize students in their pursuit of excellence and to encourage diversity among applicants and build awareness of the value and rewards associated with careers in science and technology. It is intended to provide students with the financial support to further pursue their education as well as reward achievement and effort. Those students who receive scholarships will have exemplary character and will share the values of our school community. These students will exhibit qualities such as integrity, leadership, initiative, care and compassion for others, and personal responsibility. The scholarships entitle the holder to the remission of tuition fees (whole or part*), dependent on the scholarship. Scholarships do not cover textbooks, uniforms, excursions, or individual examination fees. Student Criteria The Scholarship Program at Ajyal International School is intended to provide students with the financial support to further their education as well as reward achievement and effort. The program is open to all students from year 7 to 12. Although academic excellence is of course paramount in the awarding of a scholarship, no scholarship is ever awarded on academic excellence alone. The School Board of Ajyal International School may offer a scholarship each year to students who exhibit the following criteria:- Exemplary conduct Consistently high academic performance (all subjects) Consistent academic performance Excellent work ethic as demonstrated in school reports and portfolios Actively participating in sport and co-curricular activities Actively being involved at school functions and events A student who achieves high/excellent performance in Ajyal Scholarship Test Students considered for Scholarship offers will be asked to attend an interview with the Scholarship Panel. Applicants must support their application with a reference from their current school, the scholarship selection process is competitive and not all applicants who meet the basic eligibility criteria are necessarily awarded a scholarship. Awarding this scholarship is subject to the discretion of the Chair of Trustees. P a g e 2
Duration of Scholarships All scholarships will be reviewed and extended on an annual academic year basis. For example, a student admitted on scholarship in year 8 during the academic year 2018/19 may pursue his/her grant up to year 13 as long as exemplary high academic performance is exhibited. Students must maintain the minimum results expected of a scholarship recipient. Any scholarship recipient whose review has been unsatisfactory may have their scholarship withdrawn. Parents will receive written correspondence throughout the process of reviewing and evaluation. Determining Financial Need Each recipient is required to complete a financial need form. In the event a child is in receipt of an employer education allowance the school reserves the right to utilize this. Each applicant must demonstrate the financial capacity to continue their studies at Ajyal International School in the event the scholarship is withdrawn. Academic Progress Students are expected to maintain high academic achievement while in the scholarship program. Generally high achievement is considered to be at least an A grade at IGCSE level, or expected to achieve this grade, in the nominated program subjects. The committee may waive strict adherence to this provided that the student demonstrates very high potential to meet the requirements, or there are exceptional circumstances affecting the student s current academic performance and the Principal receives affirmative recommendation that the student be given special consideration from the scholarship review panel. Lodgment of Application Notice of scholarships being offered will be advertised on an annual basis on the school website. All students must complete a Scholarship Application Form. External students, along with the scholarship application, must also lodge an application for enrolment form and pay an application fee. Conditions of Scholarship Families with overdue fees/levies (current or previous) will be ineligible to receive a scholarship. Families with unpaid fees or levies in the current year may have the scholarship withdrawn unless unpaid fees are paid by the end of the relevant term. A review of fees and levies will be conducted every term. If a family has any outstanding fees/levies prior to the above, they must be on an active payment plan to reduce any outstanding amounts. Any default will result in cancellation of the scholarship for the current year. Disclaimer All Scholarships are granted or withdrawn at the discretion of the Bin Omeir Educational, Director of Education. Ajyal International School reserves the right to make changes to this policy at the school s sole discretion. P a g e 3
