The 1 st Call for Project Proposals The 1 st Call for Project Proposals was officially launched on 16/12/2015 with the note that it would be open until 15/04/2016. The deadline was extended until 26/04/2016, following a relevant decision of the Monitoring Committee. Eligible partnerships included partners from at least three participating countries. The Call had a budget of 20.1 mil. (85% of which is covered by EU funds) and was open to both Priorities Axes. Upon the publication of the 1 st Call for Project Proposals Info Days and partner search forums were organised in all participating countries to help potential applicants to develop their projects and to search for partners. Info Days were organised in all participating countries in co-operation with the National Authorities. More than 1,000 participants attended these events, which gave way to discuss project ideas, management and implementation issues, to meet potential applicants and to facilitate partner search. Overall, 384 Project Proposals were submitted, 175 in Priority Axis1 Entrepreneurship & Innovation and 209 in Priority Axis 2 Environment. The overall requested budget was approximately 400 million, 19.52 times higher than the budget available in the Call. In total 1092 individual entities from the five BalkanMed countries applied for funding under the 1 st Call. Citizens Summary of the 2016 BalkanMed Annual Implementation Report Page 4 of 8

Our actions build on the BalkanMed area s potential and improve competitiveness, while promoting and supporting entrepreneurship. The small and medium-sized enterprises are encouraged to find their way through to cooperation by forming networks, creating clusters and inspiring cluster policies Our entrepreneurs are enabled to acquire the necessary skills and tools to boost competitiveness, to gain access to other markets and introduce innovation in all phases of business cycle. By linking education and business, we place innovation into the heart of business practices and processes Citizens Summary of the 2016 BalkanMed Annual Implementation Report Page 5 of 8

In the BalkanMed area, we join efforts to preserve and manage the rich natural heritage of our region. After all, nature is our home; touristic development of our region matched with environmental protection and resources efficiency can ensure economic and sustainable growth for all In order to best develop the rich potential of our region, we, the local actors, apply joint environmental education and training activities, share our experiences and practices and build our capacity for the future Citizens Summary of the 2016 BalkanMed Annual Implementation Report Page 6 of 8

BalkanMed funds a diverse range of activities. Our joint projects aim to deliver real benefits to the people and to build sustainable links in the whole BalkanMed area. Projects are selected through a competitive procedure and should have a strong focus on the Programme s themes for cooperation. There is no good or bad idea for a project, but suitable solutions to specific needs. Our target is the result and the result is a better everyday day life for all.
