Simon, PhD Senior Program Director, Atrium Unit Adult Mood & Anxiety Disorders Inpatient Services Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic September 16, 2015 Course Code: T303 This program will provide an overview of the primary evidence based psychosocial interventions for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), with a focus on cognitive-behavioral treatments. Etiological theories for the development and maintenance of PTSD will be discussed briefly for the purpose of highlighting the rationale for the therapeutic approaches. Recommended resources for participants who are interested in pursuing more advanced clinical training in these interventions will be provided. Identify the primary evidence based psychosocial treatments for PTSD Identify resources for more advanced clinical training in evidence based interventions for PTSD Explain the main tenets of the emotional processing theory and informational processing theory for the etiology of PTSD Target Audience: This introductory program is for clinicians focused on the treatment of PTSD for individuals and their families. ECT in Late-Life Depression, though very effective, has some unique challenges and issues. We illustrate some of these challenges and demonstrate how the current state of treatment deals with such issues effectively. We will present an overview of some the newer treatment modalities that are being brought to the ECT service. Coleman, PhD Associate Professor of Life and Physical Sciences Science Department Chair Cabrini College Radnor, PA Reactive attachment disorder (RAD), complex trauma and developmental trauma are integrally related to the emotional and neurological impact of early childhood trauma and loss. Children with this history often present with extremely difficult behaviors, which can result in out-of-home placement, multiple foster placements, and lack of response to typical mental health treatments. This presentation will focus on strategies for treatment, including methods for parents, foster parents, residential staff and family support specialists. Practical strategies for increasing emotional connection, social reciprocity, responsibility, and joy in the relationship will be presented in an engaging real life case study format. Describe how attachment disorder is related to early developmental trauma. Explain how to use strategies in the home with difficult children that develop emotional connection, social reciprocity, responsibility, and empathy. Create treatment plan and parenting modifications that address the underlying needs of children with RAD/developmental trauma. Special considerations for high-risk groups and directions for future efforts will be discussed. Describe the challenges of mental health treatment in homeless populations. Discuss the merits of housing first models in facing those challenges. Evaluate new and better solutions to address those challenges.
