2 INTRODUCTION FROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE Thank you for your interest in joining the Eden Project at this critical time in our development. The Eden Project is a charity that strives to connect us with each other and the living world. We re at a really exciting point in our story right now, which is why this new post of Director of Philanthropy is so important. We have big ambitions there has never been a more important time for people to appreciate and look after our planet and each other, and we re creating connections at our Cornish home, across the UK and internationally. Eden s Big Lunch unites millions of people in breaking bread together and turning neighbours into friends. At our site in the Clay Country of Cornwall we inspire, entertain and educate over a million visitors every year. And one of our most important new initiatives sees us developing new Eden Projects in the USA, China and across the world. Our work matters, and we can say with confidence that it is making a real and positive difference. We have much more to do; that s where you come in. We re going to need new sources of support: in particular, major donors and legacies to sit alongside our current funders such as trusts and foundations and the Lottery. We can provide important building blocks: a much-loved brand, millions of visitors, thousands of members and a track record of delivering imaginative and engaging projects ever since the original transformation of our site when Eden was created in 2001. 3 ABOUT US The Eden Project believes in: Transformation it s in our nature We demonstrate that regeneration and positive change are possible. Connection We connect people with each other and the living world that we all depend on for resources (such as food, medicines, materials) and services (such as climate regulation, air conditioning, water recycling). We provoke people to think about the challenges that are faced in balancing the cultivation of the land for resources with conservation of the land for services. Commonality What we share is greater than that which separates us. We share 80% of our needs. We hope to inspire people to engage and explore their commonalities because by working together we can achieve more. All of our stories pick up threads from this overarching narrative. WORK AT EDEN With around 400 core staff, we are a major employer in the county of Cornwall. In addition we have approximately 200 employees who join us for seasonal employment and around 150 volunteers. The majority of our employees are recruited locally. 4 OUR MISSION To reconnect humankind with the natural world and with each other through the power of transformation bringing science, art, nature and communities together. Our initiatives will each be defined by these themes with projects being added as they develop. Each theme is championed by an executive director with dedicated Eden staff.

5 OUR ORGANISATION Yan an, China The Eden Project s mission is to explore our dependence on the natural world, to use that understanding to excite people into delivering transformation where they live and to ask really serious questions about what a great future might look like for all of us. Our home in Cornwall, UK, is a striking contemporary garden for the 21st century combining botanical garden, plant collection, park and visitor destination. It is a living theatre of plants and people. The brainchild of Sir Tim Smit, Eden is an educational charity that connects people with each other and the living world. Seventeen years ago this disused china clay pit was transformed into a global garden to demonstrate what people could do when they put their minds to something. Nestled in a huge crater, two massive Biomes housing the largest rainforest in captivity and the fragrant landscapes of the Mediterranean serve as a spectacular backdrop to the scimitar-shaped beds of the Outdoor Gardens. Wild landscapes are juxtaposed with Europe s largest collection of useful plants, ranging from food crops to fuels and medicines to materials. Eden is a place where people come for good food, music, art, exhibitions, inspiration, and year round events, as well as to simply enjoy the beauty of the gardens. Beyond our home in Cornwall our biggest UK project The Big Lunch takes place annually in June and has more than nine million people taking part each year. The Big Lunch is a very simple idea from Eden. The aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in a simple act of community, friendship and fun. Plans are afoot to expand this idea across the Commonwealth. Last year Eden announced a new company to drive the establishment of Edens around the world. Eden Project International Ltd (EPIL) is a new entity formed as part of the Eden Trust to partner with like-minded organisations to deliver the Eden mission and to deliver social and ecological benefits during a time of global environmental decline and social disruption. Eden Project International Ltd is currently working on three projects in China and others in Australia and New Zealand. Other overseas projects, including some in the Middle East and North America, are due to be announced in the coming months. With nearly 20 million visitors to date, Eden is a world-class attraction for all ages and interests, underpinned by transformational projects and learning programmes.

6 FINANCIAL SUMMARY It s been a good year for the Eden Project. We made a cash surplus from trading of more than 1.6 million in the last financial year. Turnover and visitor numbers also increased significantly during the period. Annual accounts for 2016/17 show that the trading cash surplus of 1,653,000 was down on the previous year s figure of 1,823,000. However, it is the fourth successive year that Eden has recorded a significant profit. 2016 saw Eden making big investments in its staff and on improvements to the site. There have been increased costs meeting and exceeding the National Living Wage requirements by applying the wage to employees from age 21 rather than the mandatory 25. Building on the success of the previous three years, turnover increased for the financial year by more than 1.8 million mainly due to an increase in visitor numbers. For the first time since 2011, Eden welcomed more than a million visitors in a 12-month period and recorded our highest visitor numbers for December since opening. It has been another encouraging year, with good results in terms of our trading surplus, turnover and visitor numbers, all of which have helped us make significant investments in the team and our site. Peter Wroe, Finance Director Any surplus generated from the visitor destination and related income streams is used to support maintenance and investment on our site, educational programmes and financing costs. The surplus is not sufficient to cover all the costs and like many charities we seek the support of Charitable Trusts, grants and donations to deliver new educational projects in the societal, health and science arena. Eden is grateful to the support of its funders which has enabled the creation of the Weather Maker in the Rainforest Biome, the development of Invisible Worlds and the continuing success of Eden's development and outreach projects. 8 JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Director of Philanthropy Role Purpose The Outreach & Development Team has been building a major donor fundraising capability as part of our overall approach to Fundraising. We have developed a small network of potential supporters, underpinned by a strategic process that will create the opportunity for sustained support and investment into Eden's charitable mission. This role will provide strategic leadership for high value, relationship-based fundraising. The post holder will be responsible for building on the work done to date, refining the core cases for support, extending the network of potential donors, leading to the launch of a major fundraising campaign. This work will be primarily focused in the UK and US but with the intent that we develop our philanthropic donations and network globally as appropriate. The role will encompass Trust and Foundation bids, public sector funding as well as funding from high net-worth individuals. This role will report to the CEO. We can be flexible on location, but the role would be expected to spend the majority of time in Cornwall and London. The role as either Full time or Part-time (4 days a week) will be considered. Key accountabilities 1. Lead high value, relationship-based fundraising for the organisation. Develop a strategy, work with key stakeholders across the organisation to develop the cases for support long term, identifying new opportunities for inclusion as they arise. Tier this strategy into short, medium and long term objectives with projects and initiatives that meet Eden s overall strategic aims. 2. Chair, host, develop and engage the UK Planning Committee as the foundation for driving philanthropic giving forward, managing key relationships with high net-worth individuals and developing strategic relationships to benefit the committee and Eden s growth ambitions. 3. Plan and execute the launch of a fundraising campaign. The target will be set once the private stage is complete, but it is hoped that it will be in the range of 30 to 50 million. Integrated within the plan would be the need to build the funds, plan and resource the team required to meet those targets. 4. Identify, develop and sustain high quality contacts, partnerships and relationships for the Eden Project and build an effective database of individuals and organisational contacts for fundraising, philanthropic giving and strategic support of our ambitions. 5. Create a fundraising strategy for Eden Project America. 6. Provide effective leadership as a member of the Senior Management Team, reporting to the CEO, and play a full part in wider leadership of the organization.

9 DEMANDS OF THE ROLE Education & Qualifications Educated to Degree level with membership of a leading professional institute preferable. Knowledge & Skills A senior manager with a proven track record including a minimum of 10-years experience in securing major donations, leading fundraising campaigns of 10million+, and the effective management of relationships with high net worth individuals in the charity sector. Extensive relationship building skills with a niche audience and strong theoretical knowledge on how to cultivate these relationships to encourage philanthropic giving at the highest level required. The post holder will be a strong leader with experience of working with a CRM system to export and manipulate complex data sets, segment audiences effectively and develop a CRM strategy. A solid understanding of the legal, regulatory and ethical environment of fundraising including Data Protection and Gift Aid is essential. For the US an understanding of the formation and running of 501(c)3 structures would be advantageous. Decision Making Working to medium term objectives and making decisions which will impact the organisation over the medium to long term. The post holder will have regular contact with all members of the Planning Committee and be a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The work will require close working relationships across the teams with particular reference to the Exec Director Outreach & Development and the Development Director. Reporting to the CEO on a regular basis and providing input to Eden s strategy and direction as well as board reports, professional judgement will be used in day to day decision making. Resourcefulness Adaptive thinking is a key aspect of the role and the post holder will be expected to ensure new and engaging approaches to keep the audience of potential donors happy and abreast of the campaign plan at all times. Key to the role is applying inventive approaches to relationship management and campaign planning that excite and impress our prospects and show real attention to detail. The post holder will need to understand current best practice in the fundraising landscape and apply this practically whilst adapting this to fit within our campaign in new and innovative ways. Specific importance will be placed on how we use new technology and our CRM system to maximise the impact of this campaign.

10 DEMANDS OF THE ROLE (CONT.) People & Asset Management The post holder will be responsible for driving significant fundraising income. Particular emphasis will be placed on securing individual donations in the US and the UK. They will have responsibility for a significant budget and the sign off against significant payments. Responsible for the careful management of highly sensitive personal data relating to HNW donors. The post holder will be responsible for recruiting and managing a Philanthropy Manager. Communication and Visitor experience Exceptional interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills are required for this role. Highly developed communication and listening skills are essential as are tact, strength of personality and patience, excellent written and verbal skills and the ability to deliver the role with a sense of humour and lightness of touch where appropriate. The post holder will be required to communicate and manage relationships at a high level both within and beyond the organisation, using a variety of channels to produce and share information. This role will actively expand Eden s networks and lead on key strategic relationships and negotiations. Operational environment The role will be UK based with the potential for regular UK wide travel, primarily to London.
