February 8, 2015 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time Parish Bulletin Issue 4 Volume XLVII ST. We also learn to listen-to hear what God is calling us to do. Our strengths, our talents and abilities are gifts, but they are not ours alone. God calls us to share these gifts with others. What is God calling you to do through prayer, ministry and offering? Our Stewardship of Offering Committee asks you once again to prayerfully reflect on your life of stewardship. This past week you should have received your Stewardship of Offering packet in the mail along with the Aloysius Alive. The Stewardship information was included in your 2014 Tax Form envelope. During all masses this past weekend, we heard a special presentation about Stewardship of Offering. This weekend is Stewardship of Offering Commitment Weekend. Please put your Commitment card in the offertory basket at Mass this weekend. Extra Commitment cards can be found by the entrances to the church and in the parish office. You may also mail your commitment to the parish office or you may go to our website and complete your commitment card and Bank auto debit form and mail or deliver to the Parish office. We are all part of the team that makes this congregation grow and thrive. Please answer God s Call to Stewardship. http://church.aloysius.org/assets/uploads/docs/2015-stewardship-of-offering-card.pdf http://church.aloysius.org/assets/uploads/docs/2015-bank-draft-authorization.pdf ST. February 8, 2015 Mission Statement St. Aloysius Parish embraces and nurtures all, inspiring each to act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly in the love of God. 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time

From Fr. Burns Dear Parishioners, During my forty-six years serving as a priest, I have found that there are few events in life, like a funeral of a loved one, where there is a convergence of history and memories. As we reflect and cherish the life journey of the deceased, we experience the Divine, the ultimate meaning of life and one s own life journey. I am sure that there is more. It is difficult to name exactly what we experience at the funeral of a loved one, especially when cherished by many. You can tell by the above statement that I am struggling like everyone else in attempting to describe the funeral liturgy of Fr. Than Vu, from the Vigil at Christ the King, to the wake at St. Aloysius followed by the funeral mass, and finally the burial. We owe a great deal of gratitude to him for the courage he displayed while serving as Pastor of St. Aloysius and as Vicar General of the Diocese of Baton Rouge while suffering cancer. May God give him the eternal rest that he certainly deserves. I would like to sincerely thank everyone and anyone who extended comfort and welcome to Fr. Than s family, friends, parishioners from St. Aloysius, faculty, staff and students of St. Aloysius School, Christ the King, St. Patrick, the staff of the Catholic Life Center, and the visiting clergy. Thank you to all of the musicians, the choirs, and a special thanks to the St. Aloysius Staff who worked tirelessly to make this the wonderful experience that it is. A special thanks to Ken Thevenet who worked even though he is in his initial recovery of his illness. God bless him in his recovery. The news media found it remarkable that Fr. Than had his funeral planned in detail though it is greatly encouraged by Diocesan Leaders that all clergy have this important detail accomplished. He led by example. Many Catholics do the same. Fr. Than Vu, thank you and may God grant you eternal rest. Yours in Christ, ASH WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2015 After your Mardi Gras celebration, please join us for mass on Ash Wednesday as we begin our Lenten observance. Masses with the Distribution of Ashes will be celebrated at 6:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, and 6:00 p.m. STATIONS OF THE CROSS Each Friday of Lent: 8:30 a.m. (immediately after the 8:00 a.m. mass) and at 5:30 p.m. PARISH STAFF Parish Office: 343-6657 Fr. By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes, you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary, whence you dispense your favors, and already many sufferers have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal. I come, therefore, with the most unbounded confidence, to implore your maternal intercession. Obtain, O loving Mother, the grant of my requests. I will endeavor to imitate your virtues, that I may one day share your glory, and bless you in eternity. Amen. WE OFFER OUR SYMPATHY TO THE FAMILIES OF Laura Ann Laurie Ewing Fr. Than N. IN MEMORY OF FR. THAN N. VU Father Than s Mission Statement With God at the center of my life and trusting in God s love, I will fear nothing and no one. I will always remember to whom I belong. Grateful for the precious gift of each day, I will live as if this were my last day fully, generously, and courageously. Each day, I will give away at least one tangible thing as a sign of my gratefulness and my desire to be free. I will be devoted, loyal, and faithful to my family and loved ones. I will make time each day for the significant people in my life. I will be fully present to those who come my way, treating each with reverence, sensitivity, and kindness, so that all will be enriched who encounter me. I will treat God s creation with reverence and gentleness. I will pause often to dream, live proactively, use God s gifts to expand my circle of influence, listen more empathetically. I will make time to study, exercise, love, and lift up my life to the God who loves me. I will approach life with a spirit of openness, speaking less and listening more, taking the risk of being changed by new paradigms. In all ways, I strive to live with honesty, integrity, simplicity, and humility. February 8, 2015 5 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time
