The Odisha Biodiversity Board was constituted by the State Government in pursuance of Section 22 of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 vide notification no. dated 11.11.2009. One of the mandates of the board is to conserve the biodiversity of the state through inventories and conservation research. Biodiversity of Odisha is unique among the other regions of Deccan Peninsula. The amalgamations of different bio-geographic regions make Odisha a unique place for biodiversity study and research. To explore the biodiversity of the state and to make conservation research works on rare/ endangered/ unique/ lesser studied groups, OBB will be awarding few grants this year. Interested candidates can apply in the prescribed application form (Annexure-1) along with copies of the required documents, which should be submitted by post/ by hand in a sealed cover addressed to the Member Secretary, Odisha Biodiversity Board, Regional Plant Resource Centre campus, Nayapally, Bhubaneswar, Odisha- 751015 on or before 28 th February, 2014 by 5.00 pm. Incomplete applications and applications received after the last date will not be considered. Scope of work The proposal should address either of the following issues Inventories of floral/ faunal groups of biodiversity rich areas in Odisha. Inventory/ study on lesser studied floral groups (such as bryophytes, lichens and fungi), faunal groups (invertebrates and lower vertebrates) and domestic biodiversity. Conservation of species listed in RET categories (for plants) and critically endangered/ endangered/ vulnerable category (among animals, except tigers and elephants). Qualification: Individuals having M.Sc. in Life sciences/ Botany/ Zoology/ forestry are eligible. Candidates having Ph.D. shall be given preference. Institutions/ Non-Governmental organizations having expertise in biodiversity inventories are eligible with proven track record of biodiversity research, reflected through publications/ technical reports. The P.I. should have M.Sc. in Life sciences/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry. Grant: The grant is generally restricted within INR 2 lakh but proposals having exceptionally high endeavour shall be considered for grants above the limit.
Duration: The duration of the proposed work should be less than 1 year. Selection criteria 1. Short-listed proposals shall be called for an interview. The proposed P.I. may be asked to give a presentation before the selection committee, describing the objectives, methodology and expected outcomes of the project. 2. After final selection of the proposals, the Principal Investigator has to sign a MOU. Terms and conditions 1. The applicant should be a citizen of India. 2. The area of work is restricted to Odisha. 3. The applicant has to get permission from the PCCF (Wildlife), Odisha and other authorities as applicable. He/she has to abide by the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and other laws in force. 4. The applicant has to give four copies of the final report along with soft copies of word file and original photographs used in the report. 5. Publication of research articles out of this work are encouraged with due acknowledgement to Odisha Biodiversity Board.
