Suggested student preparation prior to practice: Able to name and discuss functions of kidney. Able to name and discuss causes of renal function. Care Planning: Evidence of individual care planning, ensuring continuity of care with accurate updated records. Specific Nursing Skills: Vital signs recording ie BP, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate, blood sugars. Patient assessment /Calculation of volume fluid to be removed. Fluid overload/isolate (UF) Ultrafiltration. Managing hypotensive episode. Care of vascular access. Intra dialysis monitoring machine recordings: BVS/ KT/V / Profiling. Lining and set up of dialysis machines. Obtaining blood samples from dialysis machines. Anaemia management.
