Opportunity There is a great deal of opportunity for both youth and adults to obtain scholarship money through four scholarship contests. Please remember to promote ALL scholarship competitions!
Continuing Education Who is eligible? Applicant must be 18 years of age or older and a current VFW Auxiliary member, or the spouse, son or daughter of a current Auxiliary member. What is the scholarship amount? Four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded each year, one in each of the four VFW Auxiliary Conferences. What is the application deadline? February 15, 2018
Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest Who is eligible? - Any student in grades 9-12 who is enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States. - Maximum student age of 18 at time of local entry. - Student must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national. What is the scholarship amount? The first-place winner from each Department (state) competes for national awards totaling $21,000. What is the student application deadline? March 31, 2018
Patriot s Pen 2017-2018 theme: America s Gift to My Generation Who is eligible? Any student in grades 6-8 who is enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States and its territories. What is the scholarship amount? The national first-place winner wins $5,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. The first-place winner from each Department (state) competes for national awards totaling $54,500, with each first-place Department (state) winner receiving a minimum of $500 at the national level. What is the student application deadline? *NEW* deadline: October 31, 2017
Voice of Democracy 2017-2018 theme: American History: Our Hope for the Future Who is eligible? Any student in grades 9-12 who is enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States and its territories. What is the scholarship amount? The national first-place winner receives a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient s American university, college or vocational/technical school. Other national scholarships range from $1,000-$16,000, and the first-place winner from each VFW Department (state) wins a minimum scholarship of $1,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. What is the student application deadline? *NEW* deadline: October 31, 2017
Recognition Send a thank you note or card to all who participate in the contest. Host an award ceremony; give the students the opportunity to present their entry. Present a certificate and/or gift to those students who win or place (certificates and gifts are available from the VFW Store). Thank and recognize parents and teachers. Take pictures and ask permission to send a press release to your local paper and/or congratulate the winner on social media.
