Air Mail Par Avion I YOUR NAME 1c Switfty s Report to the Homefront Edition 14 14 Jan 2013 3 Feb 2013
What we ve been up to Over the past few weeks, Marines aboard the Peleliu have been very busy. Between launching and recovering aircraft to keep aircrew currency to in depth aircraft maintenance, Marines somehow still found time to let loose and support morale and welfare. On top of exercising their ingenuity in finding new ways to spend their free time, Marines got a chance to participate in the Peleliu Idol as the competition nears the final round. To add to the excitement, this week s competition was afforded the opportunity to open for the band Anberlin who visited the Marines and Sailors this week. Anberlin, being flown in on a CH-53E, spent two days aboard the USS Peleliu. Their gratitude for the Marines and Sailors showed as they ate with Marines in the mess decks and signed autographs. Their visit hit a pinnacle, when they gave a bona fide rock concert in the hangar bay. Marines and sailors got to enjoy the a the experience of an intimate setting, as Anberlin rocked out on a stage built on the flatbed of a Marine 7-ton truck coupled with a picturesque American flag backdrop. Few concert venues will be able to top the experience for both the Marines and sailors or Anberlin. As January came to a close, February came in by storm bringing new promotions, awards and a new era amongst the Purple Foxes Executive Officer. Finally, this week s addition came to a close with Marines and sailors taking an operational pause to critically evaluate the processes and procedures ensuring that Marines and sailors continue to keep each other safe while executing the difficult tasks they face on a daily basis. -Capt Matt Davis Your Friendly S-5 Rep

DOSS Department of Safety and Standardization On Groundhog s Day, the squadron took the day off from our grueling daily flight operations to talk about everyone s favorite topic: safety! (right) Maj Pierce takes the stage to talk to the Marines about the importance of safety. (left) Marines are engrossed in the discussions that followed. Each Marine was given the opportunity to talk about what has been going well so far in the deployment, and what we can continue to improve upon. In case you were wondering, Djibouti Phil (the local version of a groundhog, which is a camel) said that there was going to be no winter this year again.
