Summarv ExplanationlBacknround: The purpose of this request is to transfer fossil specimens excavated at Boca Ciega Millennium Park to the University of Florida, Florida Museum of Natural History. The excavation took place from January 2007 through May 2007. Boca Ciega Millennium Park staff, Tampa Bay Fossil Club and the general public were involved in excavating the fossils from natural areas of the park. The types of fossils collected include several very large and distinctive specimens of Columbia Mammoth, smaller specimens of opossum, armadillo, glyptodont, giant armadillo, sloth, rabbit, rat, bison, deer, peccary, horse, tapir, turtle, tortoise, snakes and a variety of fish. The fossils appear to be from the Pleistocene Age, with an age range from 12,000 to approximately 32,000 years ago. The University of Florida has agreed to accept donation of the fossil specimens. The Culture, Education and Leisure Department has determined the benefit of the fossils to the public and science communities will be more readily served at the Florida Museum of Natural History. The fossils will be used for research and exhibition. In exchange for the donation, the University of Florida will provide Pinellas County with a replica of the glyptodont lower jaw bone for display at Boca Ciega Millennium Park. This transaction is in accordance with 5125.38 Florida Statutes. RESOLUTION 09-- A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PINELLAS COUNTY, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE DONATION OF SURPLUS PERSONAL PROPERTY TO THE FLORIDA MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA PURSUANT TO SECTION 125.38, FLORIDA STATUTES. WHEREAS, PINELLAS COUNTY ("COUNTY") acting through its Culture, Education and Leisure Departments has acquired and maintained personal property in the form of distinctive fossil specimens excavated from natural areas of Boca Ciega Millennium Park, including the personal property identified in Exhibit A attached hereto, (Exhibit "A" sometimes referred to as the "Property") ; WHEREAS, THE FLORIDA MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA ("MUSEUM) contacted the COUNTY and inquired about the COUNTY conveying the Property to the MUSEUM for research and exhibition; the COUNTY has determined that the benefits of the Property will more readily serve the public and science at the MUSEUM; and the Property is not needed for COUNTY purposes; WHEREAS, any fossils deemed by the MUSEUM as having "no scientific value" will be returned to the COUNTY'S Parks and Recreation Department for use in future environmental education programs for the public; and WHEREAS, this donation is understood to be conditioned upon the MUSEUM agreeing to provide the COUNTY with replicas of the most significant fossils, particularly a replica of the Glyptodont jaw with teeth. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PINELLAS COUNTY FLORIDA, AT A DULY ASSEMBLED MEETING HELD ON THIS DAY OF,2009, AS FOLLOWS: Page 1 of 3

Section 1. As authorized by Section 125.38, Florida Statutes, the conveyance of the personal property for no consideration identified in Exhibit A, is hereby approved. Section 2. By the adoption of this Resolution, all rights, title and interest in and to the Property is hereby transferred and conveyed to the MUSEUM; and, the County Administrator is authorized and directed to execute any other instruments necessary or required to confirm the conveyance of the Property as provided herein. Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
