21st Annual Symposium and General Assembly International Transplant Nurses Society October 21 23, 2012 The International Transplant Nurses Society invites nurses and all healthcare professionals involved in organ donation and transplantation to join us in attending the 21st Annual Symposium and General Assembly as we celebrate Rising to the Challenges In Transplant Nursing. The symposium promises to deliver a world class program of keynote addresses and state of the art lectures together with award winning oral and poster abstract presentations. This symposium offers transplant professionals, with all levels of expertise, an opportunity to expand their knowledge base, debate best practices, discuss challenges, and improve clinical competencies. Breakout sessions over the course of the 3 day symposium will offer 13 different tracks that include: staff nurse challenges leadership / administration evidence-based practice / research advanced practice nursing kidney / pancreas heart / lung / left ventricular assist liver / small bowel health literacy / patient and staff education organ procurement and donation composite transplantation pediatrics patient safety / quality / outcomes living donation 3 The overall goals of the Symposium are to create excellence in clinical practice, education, and research throughout the transplant process, while recognizing unique needs of the transplant recipient. This Symposium will also highlight multidisciplinary team collaboration which paves the way towards the care and long-term management of transplant recipients. Finally, this Symposium will analyze best nursing practices that can be utilized to provide transplant recipients and donor / donor families the best outcomes that healthcare can deliver. The objectives of the symposium are that upon completion of the symposium, the learner will be able to: 1. Describe the current challenges in transplant nursing 2. Discuss state-of-the-art clinical practice, education, and research approaches to these challenges 3. Analyze future challenges in adult and pediatric transplant nursing 4. Evaluate the evidence on best transplant nursing practice to improve patient, family, and community outcomes.
