WELCOME TO COPENHAGEN HOST CITY OF THE ITS WORLD CONGRESS 2018

WELCOME TO COPENHAGEN IN 2018 In 2018, the City of Copenhagen will host the 25th ITS World Congress, which will be an essential meeting point for the ITS community. In addition to the large indoor exhibition area, our streets and squares will be available for the display of innovative ITS demonstration projects, which will be in line with the overall congress theme ITS - Quality of life. It is about finding solutions that are smarter, greener and healthier. The green agenda goes hand in hand with citizens needs. A green city is a precondition for a liveable and healthy city. Copenhagen has shown remarkable results working with urban development challenges in relation to the environment, traffic safety and congestion. The driving ambition is to become the first carbon-neutral capital city by 2025. We look forward to welcoming you to Copenhagen in 2018. To achieve this, Copenhagen wants to be the European leader within green technology and innovation. Therefore, the City of Copenhagen is active in a number of innovation projects, including making public transport more attractive and less polluting as well as raising the average speed of cyclists by using ITS solutions to prolong green lights. 2 ITS can help us to improve traffic flow and road safety and promote cycling and public transport. That s why the development of ITS is so important. Ninna Hedeager Olsen Mayor of Technical and Environmental Affairs City of Copenhagen 3

ITS WORLD CONGRESS AND EXHIBITION The ITS World Congress takes place in Europe every three years. Participants from 100 countries and representatives from 400 exhibiting companies will attend the event. It is the largest event within Intelligent Transport Systems and Services. The extensive scientific/professional conference programme attracts approx. 4,000 delegates representing the ITS industry, public authorities, researchers, politicians and the media. The Congress also includes a large exhibition (25,000 m 2 ), live demonstrations from the industry and research and deployment projects, technical visits and social events. The exhibition will be open for public participation engaging school classes and university students. The ITS Congresses in Europe are organised by ERTICO ITS Europe (www.ertico.com) in close cooperation with the European Commission, the local Host, ITS America and ITS Asia-Pacific. We hereby invite the ITS industry, research institutions and public authorities all over Europe to officially support the 2018 ITS World Congress in Copenhagen. The overall theme of the congress is ITS - Quality of life. The technical themes of the Congress include: Mobility services from transport to mobility to liveability ITS and the environment Connected, cooperative and automated transport Next generation goods delivery Satellite technology applied to mobility Transport networks operations Host topic: Cross-border mobility solutions A broad group of private companies, civil society organisations, research institutions and public authorities back the ITS World Congress 2018 in Copenhagen including The City of Malmo, the Region of Skaane and the Capital Region of Copenhagen. 4 5

BEING A PARTNER OF THE ITS WORLD CONGRESS As an innovative city with focus on liveability and green technology, the City of Copenhagen has built a strong foundation for its ITS platform. As a service and technology partner for the City of Copenhagen on the innovative lighting and network mesh platform, Citelum are thrilled to be part of the local funding partnership. This partnership will give us great opportunities to work with innovative companies and implement ITS solutions in real life that will make a difference. Laurent Clement Vice President, Europe Citelum, Group EDF The City of Copenhagen sees the ITS World Congress 2018 as a strong driver for growth, commercial development and knowledge sharing on a global scale. It is our vision that the 2018 Congress in Copenhagen will bring together international public and private partners in a close collaboration that will contribute to the advancement of worldwide future ITS solutions. On a regional level, the goal is that the Congress should strengthen the potential of cross-border partnerships between Denmark and Sweden, and reinforce the wide-ranging alliance within the Nordic Region. All of this can only happen if strong collaborations and connections are established across borders. With this in mind, the City of Copenhagen and ERTICO ITS Europe invite all interested private and public parties to join us as official partners for the ITS World Congress 2018, which will take place in the heart of Copenhagen. As a partner, you will be assured high visibility and prominent positioning in the activities and communications leading up to the Congress and, of course, during all five days of the Congress itself. 6 7

DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS Together with local cross-border host organisations, the City of Copenhagen invites the ITS industry, research institutions and public authorities to prepare innovative ITS demonstration projects that can enlighten the ITS World Congress in Copenhagen and stimulate joint reflection and networking on the role of ITS in developing a safer, greener and more sustainable transport system. The City of Copenhagen eagerly encourages and invites all actors (industries, public authorities, universities etc.) to introduce themselves in Copenhagen and use the city as a testing ground to prove their concepts and demonstrate their products and services in a real-life scenario. Demonstration projects should contribute to the development of ITS technology and showcase its benefits for the public in line with the overall congress theme ITS - Quality of life. In addition, they should support one or more of the seven themes: Mobility services from transport to mobility to liveability, ITS and the environment, Connected, cooperative and automated transport, Next generation goods delivery, Satellite technology applied to mobility, Transport networks operations, Host topic: Cross-border mobility solutions. Companies will have the opportunity to test their products and solutions in practice in a unique city and to present their results at the 2018 Congress. One example of an ITS solution that is being tested on the streets of Copenhagen is the Compass4D project, with equipment installed at 21 intersections on key bus routes. Drivers are provided with time-to-green and time-to-red information and buses are given green priority. The buses involved in the project have been able to achieve a smoother flow, reducing travel time by over 10% and the number of stops by 5%. It is estimated that this results in a reduction in CO 2 emissions of approximately 2%. We would be very proud to host other interesting demonstration projects in Copenhagen. SEE YOU IN COPENHAGEN 2018 COPENHAGEN GREEN, SMART AND LIVEABLE Copenhagen is known abroad as a green, smart and liveable city. It has also maintained its position as one of the world s most popular congress cities. Copenhagen is a safe and green city with a rich cultural life. In 2014, the City of Copenhagen was awarded both the European Green Capital Award and the World s Smart Cities Award. Copenhagen has launched an ITS Action Plan outlining the themes and focus areas for the city s work with ITS. The ITS Action Plan has formed the basis for a larger ITS tender on innovative urban ITS solutions for the benefit of citizens and users. One project involves developing variable message signs for the cycling community that provide information such as timeto-green, travel speed and suggested alternative routes. Another project involves intelligent street lighting that improves safety for cyclists and pedestrians crossing intersections during the hours of darkness. Among other projects, the tender also includes an advanced city traffic management system (CTMS) that has been implemented in 2016 and 2017. The ITS solutions can be visited during the Congress, as well as other initiatives such as Copenhagen s driverless metro, which will be extended with 17 new stations by 2019. 10 11
