All Bethel Park Schools Receive Keystone Achievement Award All Bethel Park schools received the Keystone Achievement Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Education for making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) on the PSSA Exams for the years 2007-2008 and 2008-2009. This is the fifth consecutive year all Bethel Park elementary schools received this award. To make AYP, 63 percent of students must score Advanced or Proficient in Reading and 56 percent must score Advanced or Proficient in Math.

BPHS Students Raise $700 for UNICEF The Bethel Park High School National Honor Society trick-ortreated this Halloween, to raise $700 for UNICEF (The United Nations Children s Fund). This is the second year this project was held, with more students participating and more money raised than last year. The event was coordinated by Leslee Keibler and Samantha Lynn. IMS Students Send 250 Pounds of Candy Overseas Independence Middle School Core Skills Improvement Students collected 250 pounds of Halloween Candy for U.S. Service Men and Women. The students also made thank you posters to send with the candy, to thank the soldiers for their sacrifices to keep America safe. The students worked with Operation Troop Appreciation to make sure the donation arrived safely. IMS students say thank you to U.S. Soldiers by sending them 250 pounds of candy.
Neil Students Raise $8,780 for SHIM For the 10 th consecutive year, Neil Armstrong students raised money and purchased presents for the South Hills Interfaith Ministry s Angel Emporium program. This year the students raised $8,780 to purchase Christmas presents for needy people in the South Hills area. The students delivered the presents to SHIM to better understand how the program works and to see where their gifts would go. Neil Armstrong students enjoyed shopping in stores such as Target to purchase gifts for SHIM s Angel Emporium.
Memorial Fourth Graders Learn to Pay It Forward Memorial Fourth Graders are learning to Pay It Forward this holiday season. The students purchased Christmas gifts for children who are part of the Allegheny County Foster Care System. The students stayed after school to participate in Wrapping Party to get the gifts ready. Even if they didn t purchase a gift, the students were invited to stay to learn that they can help others on many levels.
Lincoln Students Entertain at Retirement Home A group of 12 Lincoln third and fourth graders volunteered to participate in a Halloween Community Service Project at the Paramount Retirement Community. The students performed You re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, sang songs and told jokes to the residents. The students had such a good time, they are planning a return visit! Washington Kindergarten Students Sell Lemonade for Breast Cancer Research! November 18 was declared PINK DAY at Washington and everyone wore pink to school in support of Breast Cancer Research. The kindergarten students sold pink lemonade during lunch for 25 cents a cup and raised $204 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Also thanks to everyone who helped to raise $7,500 during the PINK OUT at Bethel Park Stadium in October. The money was donated to breast cancer research. Washington Kindergarten students loved selling lemonade in the cafeteria for breast cancer research.
