Weathers, CEcD President & CEO Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA) Steve Weathers was named President and CEO of the Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA) and joined the staff in November 2010. Prior to his role at SEDA, Steve was the President and CEO of the Regional Growth Partnership (RGP) since September of 2005, where he also led Rocket Ventures as its President & Managing Director. During his time at RGP, the organization assumed a leadership role that led to the creation of more than 7,200 new high-paying, high-skilled jobs in the region. Rocket Ventures, the region s first ever pre-seed venture fund which Steve led the effort to create, grew to become a $22.5 million early-state investment fund comprised of $7.5 million of private investment capital, as well as a $15 million grant from the State of Ohio. Rocket Ventures created 77 new technology companies in a three-year period. Steve has been in economic development for more than 20 years, with 11 of those years in San Diego, California as Vice President of the San Diego Economic Development Corporation. Through the years, Steve has been involved in the attraction retention, growth and start-up of more than 500 companies. Some of his most significant and notable successes during his economic development career have been the attraction of the Novartis Genomic Research Center, Gateway Computers headquarters, the LEGO Theme Park and the SPAWAR Defense headquarters to the San Diego region, as well as the Page 1 of 8

attraction of the GEICO, Citigroup and Intuit Software national service centers to the Tucson region. I can t wait to read his next blog to see if the title is still Internal Audit s Dirty Little Secret! Richard discussed the new IIA designation, Certification in Risk Management Assurance. If you are interested in earning the CRMA designation, act quickly! The time for qualifying based on your education and experience (rather than an exam) is running out. Don t miss this opportunity! If you still haven t mastered the CIA exam, don t forget The IIA s Certified Internal Auditor Learning System. Details are available in this newsletter and on our Chapter website. IIA announces Changes to CPE Requirements and Reporting Processes in 2012 Effective January 1, 2012, changes to the reporting period, Continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements, and the reporting process will be implemented. The table below summarizes these changes. The full list of changes as approved by the Board of Directors is available in The IIA s Administrative Directive Number 4: 2011. Item Effective 1/1/2012 Reporting Period Reporting will now be done annually for all certified individuals. All candidates will be required to report every year versus every other year. Reporting Date Number of Hours Required for CIA Number of CPE Hours Required for CCSA, CFSA, CGAP, CRMA Specialty Certification CPE Requirements Required Attestations at Time of CPE Reporting Submission Failure to Report CPE Reinstatement Policy The reporting date is changing from May 31st to December 31st. 40 hours per year if practicing 20 hours per year if non-practicing 0 hours per year if retired 20 hours per year if practicing 10 hours per year if non-practicing 0 hours per year if retired 25% of CPE hours earned must be in the specialty area of expertise. Performs internal audit services in accordance with the Standards To abide by The IIA Code of Ethics To not bring The IIA into disrepute Confirming no criminal convictions since last reporting period Will result in an individual s certification status being moved to INACTIVE. The designation can no longer be used until the individual s CERTIFIED status in reinstated. If INACTIVE greater than 12 months, to reinstate, candidate will need to report 80 hours of CPE and pay reinstatement fee of USD $100 member or USD $250 non-member. Page 5 of 8
