GLOUCESTER COUNTY JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: CORRECTIONAL HEALTH ASSISTANT COUNTY OFFICE: SHERIFF GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Under minimal supervision, performs responsible pressional work providing medical care and treatment inmates at the Gloucester County Jail; prepares and maintains patient records. Medical care is under direction the Jail Physician or Physician s Assistant. Reports administratively to the Captain Corrections. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Works closely with jail physician and physician s assistant to provide proper medical care and treatment for those inmates confined in Gloucester County Jail; assists with providing emergency medical assistance to inmates and/or staff and assists physician in conducting sick calls. Assists with scheduling dental and medical appointments as advised by a physician. Conducts medical history reviews, prepares medical histories; maintains patient records in accordance with policy and procedures. Administers medicine dosage and treatments as per physician s orders. Assists with the maintenance and control all medications and drugs on hand in accordance with policy and procedure. Draws blood as required. Conducts urinalysis to include basic laboratory testing for substance abuse, blood-born and sexually transmissible diseases (STD s), to include cholesterol examinations and other laboratory testing as required. Completes medical reports and medical forms. Keeps work areas clean and stocked with supplies. personnel. Takes inventory supplies and orders supplies or advises P.A. when supplies are needed. Participates in on-going training. Performs other related work as required. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE CORRECTIONAL HEALTH ASSISTANT Graduation from high school, with two years college in nursing or related field and experience in public health preferred or any equivalent combination training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must be currently licensed in Virginia as a LPN. Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth Virginia. Employee may be subject to subsequent physical examinations to ensure he/she meets job-related physical requirements.. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Physical Requirement: Must be physically able to operate a variety machinery and equipment including computers, forensic equipment, typewriters, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, etc. Must be physically able to operate twoway radios, a motor vehicle and a variety medical equipment. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds force occasionally and/or a negligible amount force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects or resisting individuals. Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using medical and laboratory equipment. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety items, fice equipment, control knobs, switches, weapons, etc. Must have minimal levels eye/hand/foot coordination.
