Governor We are embarking on a new Kiwanian year, October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018. It is exciting to be a Kiwanian at this time We have many new Officers and Board of Directors as well as new Members to provide energy and enthusiasm to our Clubs in Division 44. Installations and Club Appreciation Meetings went well It was fun and exciting to listen to all the past achievements of the year by the Clubs and inspirational messages by incoming Presidents. Our work has just begun for the new year. The theme throughout Kiwanis on International, District, Divisional and Club levels for 2017-2018 will be the active recruitment of new members to Kiwanis. Our lifeblood depends on your ability to recruit and retain new members. It is as simple as Just Asking A great question to ask someone is Are you a Kiwanian yet? This last year we worked on the I-Plan. The plan was very effective in many clubs and reviewed at Board meetings. This year it has been renamed Strategic Plan We need all Clubs reviewing their existing plans and updating as necessary. The Strategic Plan gives focus, clarity and helps Clubs assess priorities. As the year progresses, I encourage all of you to participate in as many activities as you can from committee and project work, to Board meetings to Club Leadership. The real beneficiaries are the children and your communities. Take in the Interclubs, visit Division Council Meetings (DCM s), attend the Mid-Year & Governor s Visit Meetings in Sacramento if fact, splurge and fly to the Big Island in Hawaii in August for the District Meeting! October 2017 Page 3 Kiwanis Club of Carmichael Contributed By Linda Martin Sugarloaf Fine Arts Camp Judee, on behalf of the Youth Services Committee, presented a check for $200 to Terry of the Montessori School. We were fortunate to have two young students from the school tell us thank you, and to explain what the funds will be used for. Some of the items mentioned: Basketball Hoops, a Four Squares Project, Balls, and Flag Equipment. We were all delighted to hear the boys and see how excited they were about their project. Jackie was pleased to present a check to our speaker today, Sarah Thompson. The funds were earmarked for her refugee project. She was delighted, and pleased with our support of her mission: Sacramento Kindness.
October 2017 Page 4 Kiwanis Club of Carmichael Contributed By Linda Martin K-Kids Mary is the President-Elect of the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills, and has managed the K-Kids for three years. She and her husband enjoy Cooking, Gardening and Traveling. The K-Kids have 35 3rd through 5th Graders in at Carlin C. Coppin Elementary School in Lincoln. The students are taught Leadership Skills (Planning Fundraisers, Speaking, Community Service Projects), Kindness and Respect. Here are some of their student projects: A Kindness Tree in the cafeteria, with Student Acts of Kindness written on its Leaves. School Yard Cleaning, Weeding, Paint Flag on the Backboard. Sandwiches for the Homeless. Fleece Blankets for Shelters. Thanksgiving Baskets (100). SPCA Kitten Toys. Teacher Appreciation Breakfast. Write Letters asking for Donations. Safety Awareness Day with the Police and Fire Departments. Trauma Dolls. The children chosen for this club must give 3 Service Hours per Month, pay $3.00 Annual Dues, be able to Write, have a C Grade Average and have Parent s Consent. If they Misbehave 3 Times, they are out. They design and plan their own fundraisers and have learned to ask the community members for donations. These students speak over the school intercom about Acts of Kindness seen of others, and will earn a T-Shirt for attending a certain number of meetings and events. They have a Board with a President, Treasurer, Sergeant-at- Arms, and a Secretary, who run the meetings. The Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills budgeted $2,000 for this club to support their projects. They bring in Key Club students to speak to them about what is going on in the high school. The K-Kids meet on the First and Third Tuesdays, from 2:45-3:45 PM and the Board meets at 7:30 AM twice a month. Mary encouraged our club to consider sponsoring a K-Kids Club, as it is very rewarding, and teaches elementary aged children leadership skills through service to their community. In big and small ways, they are changing the world around them. But the most significant changes happen in the kids themselves.

Virginia, representing the Spiritual Aims Committee, gave a check for $300 to Loaves and Fishes to feed the homeless. New Circle K Club Being Chartered at American River College The Carmichael Kiwanis Club is pleased announce they will be chartering a Circle K Club at American River College. October 2017 Page 6 Kiwanis Club of Sacramento Suburban Contributed By Naomi Errecart R s El Presidente El Presidente, Bruce Lagomarsino shared some thoughts as to what he would like to see happen during his reign. He focused on a number of "R's": Retain: Retain the members we have with Good Programs and Camaraderie. Recruit: Invite friends to Share Lunch, Projects and the Good that Kiwanis does. Respond: Respond to Community Needs. Also to District and International considerations. React to Events around us. Respect for Club Members. Responsible for Actions. Relevant Programs. Bruce shared that he had several techniques to control his stuttering such as speaking in a southern accent, snapping his fingers and rocking side to side. Bruce taught for 30 years and threatened to move us closer to the lectern if we misbehaved. Let's all support Bruce in the coming year!
October 2017 Page 7 Kiwanis Club of Sacramento Suburban Contributed By Naomi Errecart Lt. Governor s Installation Dinner Fred Borowski fined himself $8 for missing the Lt. Governor s installation dinner last night; Donna and Mike Gordon, Caren and Bruce Lagomarsino, Rich Kocher, Marianne Laws, and Naomi Errecart were all in attendance. Division 44 Lt. Governor Laird Smith joined us for our luncheon meeting and presented a Division 44 Directory for 2017-2018 to Bruce; awarded Sac Suburban Kiwanis a patch for our campaign last year to donate food supplements to Title 1 students and for hosting a DCM this year; and bestowed upon Fred a thank you award for his presidency this term.
October 2017 Page 8 Kiwanis Club of Sacramento Suburban Contributed By Naomi Errecart Community Service Barbara and Rich delivered goods to the Mather Veterans Village food bank YCPO: Rich went on a shopping spree with Julie Oliver, the nutrition coordinator at Wellspring. The remodeling of their facility has just been completed and many items were in need of an upgrade or replacement. Sac Suburban spent $860 on these purchases which will enable Wellspring to continue to prepare breakfast for over 200 women and children on a daily basis. In gratitude for the club s generosity, both Crisis Nursery and Wellspring would love to provide our club with a tour of their respective facilities. Rich will follow up with them as to the best time to visit and circulate a sign-up sheet. October 2017 Page 9 Kiwanis Club of Sacramento Suburban Contributed By Naomi Errecart Annual Golf Tournament On a Chamber of Commerce type of day, Kiwanians gathered at Antelope Greens Golf Course and had the annual club golf tournament. For the second year in a row, Mike Brownell and Jon Kaempfer tied for the Lowest Score. In a scorecard playoff, Mike Won and Jon finished with the Low Net. Rich Kocher had the Low Calloway; Chris Creelman had the Long Drive and Jim Wunschel the Least Putts. The innumerable planes with fire retardant flying above us reminded how thankful we were.

October 2017 Page 11 Kiwanis Club of Placerville Quarterly Community Service Award The Quarterly Community Service Award was presented by Stephanie Carlson and Brenda Frachiseur to Sheila Silan. Sheila works with our youth at the El Dorado County Office of Education, currently with SARB program. She also has been a Foster Parent for 35 years. Hearty Congrats and Kudo's Sheila!!! Installation of Officers and Board Members Installation Dinner for Officers and Board Members, a NIGHT meeting at Smith Flat House, Wednesday October 4, 2017. A Festive Affair indeed!! Room was packed to capacity, hosted by Lanny Langston and Jean Meyer. The room decorations and flags brought a wave of patriotic pride. Thank you to Meliisa Cowan for donating the beautiful arranged flower centerpieces. The singer from Imagination Theater singing "Somewhere over the Rainbow" was absolutely fantastic and brought a tear to my eye. The dinner fare was outstanding; thank you to the Chef and Old Town Grill staff, Lorraine and the flawless serving crew. Thank you to all the members that dressed in patriotic colors (especially Charlie Wiglesworth in his pants attire). Observing and participating in that meaningful Placerville Club camaraderie and "Sense of Family" is a feeling that can't be surpassed. It was a grand and memorable night to all that attended. Many thanx to Laird Smith, Lt. Governor and his wife Shari, sharing this occasion with us. It was great to see and meet a founding member of the Placerville Club: President, Lt. Governor, and Governor Stu Rosen and his wife.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom El Dorado HS key Clubbers Start of Day El Dorado HS key clubbers with their treasures at the end of the day (Oh, they learn at such a young age about shopping!!) Laird Smith is again leading us in Division 44. It was a nice evening and we even had our own Jack Seigal recognized for his perfect attendance at the DCM s as well as recognition for some great work he does on our most informative and interesting Kronicle, and the work he put into the Division Directory. One additional presentation was made by our Lt. Governor at our Installation Dinner. Recognition of Bonnie Shewchuk our outgoing President, for the great job she has done this year for our Club and Kiwanis. She is and will continue to be a hard act to follow.
October 2017 Page 16 Kiwanis Club of Rancho Murieta Contributed By Jack Seigal Boy Scout Troop 633 Be Prepared is the motto of the Boy Scouts of America. The highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America is Eagle Scout. One of the requirements of earning the Eagle Scout rank is completing an Eagle Scout Service Project. The Eagle Scout Service Project is the opportunity for a Boy Scout to demonstrate leadership of others while performing a project for the benefit of his community. Life Scout Jack Pelletier was thinking about his Eagle Scout Service Project and thought about a kit for a household to be used during a power loss, or perhaps a local disaster. This was before the tragedies being reported by hurricanes. But what to put in the kits? He consulted the Federal Emergency Management Agency and came up with a list of needed items for such a 72 hour Emergency Survival Kit. The list included Food, Water Packets, Hand Crank Flashlight / Radio, Toilet Paper, Whistle, First Aid Kit, and more. Sponsors (with the names on the side of the kits) helped to underwrite the cost. Our Kiwanis Foundation supported this Eagle Service Project. Boy Scout Troop 633 is chartered to the Kiwanis Club of Rancho Murieta Foundation. Here is how the kits were distributed to selected home owners in Rancho Murieta. A list of lot numbers were obtained from the Rancho Murieta Association. The numbers were transcribed on slips of paper and a drawing took place on Saturday, September 16th. After the drawing, the kits were delivered to the homes selected.

October 2017 Page 20 Kiwanis Club of Roseville Contributed By Joe Blair Photo s from Ted s Past Year Roseville Bikefest 20+ of our high school Key Clubbers and over 8 Kiwanians participated in the Roseville Bikefest a couple of weeks ago. Over 300 participants went through the various stations where they received a Bike Safety Presentation, a Bike Helmet Fitting or a new Helmet, Bike Safety Inspection and the chance to Ride an Obstacle Course. A great time was had by all! Thanks to everyone who participated!!
