Introducing One most enduring ways that we can all build well for the future is to create and maintain a meaningful Scholarship Program for the sons and daughters people of our industry. This program is now a reality The awards are to be determined by the Scholarship Committee composed of representatives of both Labor and Management. Any group of people who desire to achieve greatness must have a source of pride that comes from within. It is deeply felt that this pride can be ours in that our sons and daughters will have pride in their fathers and the industry they serve. Neely Duquesne University SECRETARY Rege Claus Scholarship Awards The Scholarship Fund Plumbing & Pipe Fitting Industry will offer six (6) $2000.00 scholarships a year: One scholarship award to... MCA (Plumbing Division) One scholarship award to... MCA (Heating Division) Two scholarship awards to... UA Local #449 Two scholarship awards to... UA Local #27 Here are the Rules: 1. "High School Seniors enroll in public or private schools who will be graduating the year the application is made, who are sons or daughters or legal dependents of members of U.A. Local Unions #27 and #449; or sons, daughters, or legal dependents of a contractor who is a contributor to the Industry Promotion Fund of Mechanical Contractors Association of Western Pennsylvania, Inc., including exempt management employees (employed within the territorial jurisdiction of Mechanical Contractors Association of Western Pennsylvania, Inc.) not covered by a collective bargaining agreement; and including sons, daughters, or legal dependants of staff employees of Mechanical Contractors Association of Western Pennsylvania, Inc." shall be eligible to apply. 2. Scholarship Awards are competitive and will be based on the evaluation of an essay. The time and place the essay is to be sent to each applicant immediately upon receipt of his or her application. The topic essay will be announced on the day the essay is to be written. The topic will not require research of factual knowledge but will solicit the essayists ideas and opinions. 3. A scholarship winner may use the proceeds scholarship to defray the expenses of any post-high school course of training at any accredited institution, including, but not necessarily limited to, college, university, junior college, nursing school, or technical institute of his/her choice in the United States, but must be enrolling in a full-time program in any course of his/her choosing. 4. Each scholarship shall be awarded for one year with the awards made payable to the selected applicants, but will be deposited with the college, university, junior college, nursing or technical school ir choice after acceptance for admission. One-half the scholarship will be available in September, the remainder in January, and must apply to tuition. 5. Applicants shall submit a completed application within the specified time limits along with the additional information specified in ITEM F of this application. 6. In Judging scholarship applicants the Awards Committee shall select a 1st and 2nd place recipient within each respective organizations. Recipients in 2nd place shall be deemed alternates. If for any reason the 1st place recipient becomes ineligible to accept the scholarship award, then the alternates shall accordingly be awarded the scholarship award. 7. Any change in the education status scholarship recipient must be reported to the Trustees Scholarship Fund Plumbing & Pipe Fitting Industry. 8. The scholarship recipient must submit proof that he/she has maintained the equivalent of at least a 2.0 average during the first term in order to receive the $1000.00 aid for the second term. Should the recipient fail to qualify for the aid the second term, the unused portion scholarship award shall be awarded to the alternate.
