Oconee 4-H Focus Middle School Edition january 2017 Happy New Year! The 4-H Office is located at 1420 Government Station Road in Watkinsville Visit our Website: ugaextension.com/oconee My next meeting is: Transportation Transportation can be requested for 4-H after school activities. A parent's note must be given to your school each time you to go to the 4-H office. Please be sure to follow the directions for your school: MBMS meet at the bus lane, dismiss with first load; OCMS dismiss with second load and meet at the bus lanes. Athens Academy Meet 4-H van in middle school car rider line. County Project Achievement County Project Achievement (5th and 6th graders) will be held on January 17 at North Oconee High School from 4:00-6:30. To compete, every 4-H er must present a demonstration or a project. There are many different project categories available. First, second and third place winners will receive a free trip to District Project Achievement at Rock Eagle on February 11. Sign up at your 4-H meeting at school or contact the 4-H office for more information at 706/769-3946. For information on project achievement go to: http://www.georgia4h.org/public/coreprograms/ projectachievement/resourcesforparents/default.htm District Project Achievement 4-H Learning Opportunities District Project Achievement is open to all who qualify at County Project Achievement. It will be held on Saturday, February 11 at Rock Eagle 4-H Center. 4-H members from all over Northeast Georgia will meet to present their projects. Everyone who advances to District Project Achievement should attend a practice on January 27, February 1 or 2 after school at the 4-H office. Call the 4-H office for any questions. Project Achievement Practice Days Anyone who would like some help preparing for County Project Achievement can call the 4-H office prior to CPA. All who qualify for DPA must go to a practice day after school until 5:00 on January 27, February 1 or February 2. Art Club Have fun and learn some basic art skills at this class. Meet on Wednesday, January 18 and Wednesday, January 25 after school until 5:00 at the 4-H office. Junior/Senior DPA Practice All 7th-12th graders who are competing at District Project Achievement in March must attend practice days on February 13 (schedule a time between 1-5) or on February 16, 17 & 22 after school until 5:00. 4-H Community Service Opportunities Cooking With Care Middle School Students are invited to join us after school at the 4-H office on January 23 to learn cooking skills and prepare a meal for a local family. Join us to learn great recipes and practice proper cooking skills to benefit a local family. Cooking With Care ends at 5:00. Recycle Your Cans! Please bring your recycled aluminum cans to the trailer at the back entrance to the 4-H office. A full trailer equals a camp scholarship for a deserving 5th or 6th grader. 4-H Extras d f Photography Contest If you enjoy taking pictures, then do not miss out on the Oconee County Photography Contest. The categories include Focus on Youth, Focus on Agriculture, Focus on Animals and General Photography. Please attach the entry form to the back of your photo or email digital photos to ksahley@uga.edu. The deadline to turn in your entry is February 28. Congratulations to Lora Nedza for being selected as a delegate for National 4-H Conference! Lora will represent Georgia 4-H in Washington D.C. in March. Super job! The Junior Consumer Judging Team won second place! Thank you to those who helped with November Road Clean Up! Lora Nedza helped our 4-H members learn budgeting skills in Financial Fitness. Participants included: Kira Jackson and Presley Yount.

Brag Board Continued Our Middle School Cooking With Care prepared a delicious meal in November. Thank you to Emily Antwine, Alicia Carnes, Mills Crosland, Austin Geslin, Sadie Jordan, Robie Lucas, Lucy Rentz and Kalani Washington. Special thanks to Emily Queen and Keyazia White for helping. At Cookies With Care 4-H ers made yummy Christmas Cookies for county officials. Frida Alejandra, Emily Antwine, Addie Baer, Emma Bennetzen, Jillian Callaway, Caroline Duncan, Andrew Futrell, Evelyn Lessl, Brenna Pursley and Grayson Yount worked hard with help from our great teen leaders. CONGRATULATIONS to all who made yummy recipes in the Milk Make Contest: Juliana Bluhm, Abbigail Miller, Alyssa Smith and Faith Tucker. Thanks to our judges: Andrew Hunt, Grace Miller, Lora Nedza, Emily Queen and Harrison Williams. Seniors had a fantastic weekend at Rock Eagle for Fall Forum! Those attending included: Ayah Abdelwahab, Mennah Abdelwahab, Clay Baer, Hayden Guthrie, Lora Nedza, Emily Queen, Brantley Saye, Reed Smith, Kiana Washington, Keyazia and Harrison Williams. Lora and Emily taught classes while Ayah, Mennah, Reed and Keyazia participated in the Exhibit Fair. Kiana did a fantastic job performing with Clovers and Company. Sarah Bowden, Hunter Jordan, Lora Nedza and Harrison Williams attended Counselor Selection Weekend at Rock Eagle. They met with 4-H members and leaders from across the country to celebrate 4-H!
