INTRODUCTION An initiative of e Charles Correa Foundation, DWELL is a workshop for Architects, Designers and Students of Architecture and Design to instigate ought on mitigating increasing urban densities especially in e context of housing. The workshop intends to introduce e many perspectives, forces and pull-push factors at influence life in a city. The workshop also aims to zoom in and zoom out to micro and macro issues of living and housing in super-dense urban conditions. The dialogue is intended to revolve around design of a dwelling, its many contexts and e fundamental amenities at are critical to e success of a vibrant housing layer in any city. DWELL will also provoke ought on bo ends of a spectrum: on one end, it will discuss issues of privacy, gender, use, comfort and delight - e basics of a dwelling unit while on e oer, it will locate all ideas wiin a specific typology and context. India does not have one urban focus - we have a web of Metros, Tier 1 Cities, Tier 2 Urban Centers, Suburban Centers, Towns and Villages. If by 2050, 75% of e world s population is to live in cities, cities need to be planned for is 75%. This ought forms e basis of e workshop. 6 teams will ideate on designing a unit in 6 urban centres of varying scales, capacities, character and climate. This will open e discussion to a spectrum - from a need for densification to a limit on saturation. All ideas will be documented and chronicled by e Charles Correa Foundation for furer research and action.

program Image Wikimedia Commons 1. Design a dwelling for a 2 + 2 + 2 (2 Children, 2 Working Adults and 2 Retired Elderly) Family in your city. The dwelling can be imagined in any context wiin e city - e site is to be hypoetical but has to refer to a real condition. 2. The dwelling unit has to have fundamental spaces for all life activities - living, sleeping, washing and cooking. 3. The dwelling unit has to support incremental organization and us has to be imagined as a cluster / block condition. Oer an is, e team is free to debate issues like minimum space, spaces for all age, common and community spaces, shared amenities, services and structure and e design of e interior space. Keywords Context In e purview of e workshop, Context is referred to as climatic, social, economical and cultural landscape of e urban center - immediate and broad. Typology Amenities Cluster/Block Typology refers to e character of e dwelling unit / cluster / block. Tenement, apartment, tower, studio, kutcha/pukka squatter etc. are all typological references. Amenities refer to playground, schools, hospitals, marketplaces, spaces for elderly etc. Amenities are independent of e basic services and are referred for planning. The Cluster and Block definitions are open to interpretation and refer to scalability, incremental capacity and adaptability of e unit as per proposed design.

FAQ Image Randy Olson Who can apply? Students: Young Graduates: 4 and 5 year students from e following Disciplines: Bachelor in Architecture, Urban Planning and oer related fields in Design. Architects and Designers below 28 years of age. How to apply? Submit e attached form to connect@ccfgoa.in along wi attachments. Your portfolio / work samples must contain examples of your best and most recent work and reflect your interest in exploring issues of concern in human settlements / human interaction wi space / housing etc. The portfolio should be in PDF format not exceeding 3 MB. All sheets wiin e portfolio have to be A3 (Portrait / Landscape). Selection Procedure: We will select 12 Fresh graduates and 18 Students based on eir portfolio. Amongst e 18 students, 2 best portfolios will be selected and eir registration fee will be waived off. All oers will have to pay a registration fee. The teams will be decided rough lots during e workshop. Each team will be allotted one of e 6 cities to base e workshop program. Rules & Conditions 1. Team selection will be done by drawing lots and e participants are expected to adhere to e final selection list. 2. The work generated during is workshop will be archived at e Charles Correa Foundation and we request all team members to submit eir work in e specified formats for CCF publications. 3. Each team has complete freedom to decide on e process, timing and allotment of work wiin e team. The studio will remain open all night roughout e workshop duration. 4. Limited Number of Bicycles will be arranged for e participants. 5. We would not allow any friends, outsiders to visit e place of work during e working time and entrances would be controlled rough ID cards. So we request e participants to avoid bringing/inviting oers to e place of work. 6. Press, limited number of friends would be allowed to attend e review sessions at (wi prior permission) 7pm on Friday and Saturday. The public presentation on Sunday 5:30pm is open for all. 7. Tea, Coffee, Lunch and Dinner will be organized by Indigo Interactives who are also taking care of all e logistics. 8. We also request all e team members/team leaders to co-operate wi e press. 9. The output should be in digital format - drawings, images, walk-roughs etc. We would need bo high res files (for e purpose of printing) and low res files (for e purpose of presentation). 10. In any matter pertaining to e workshop, e decision of e Director would be final. The Following will not be provided and Each Participant can decide to bring: Laptop wi necessary pre loaded softwares, digital camera, sketching materials, sketchbooks, rendering materials etc. We will provide you wi e following: A4 scanner and A3 printer, Wifi internet access, Work stations and white boards/ Pinup boards, Rough tracings, Model Making materials etc.
Costs Workshop Registration Per Person: Rs. 4200 This includes all embedded costs of e workshop. Part of e costs are borne by e Charles Correa Foundation. For 2 best applications, is cost will be waived off. Logistics Costs Per Person: Rs. 6400 This Includes: All Meals - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. (4 Dinners, 3 Breakfasts and 3 Lunches). Accommodation for 4 nights on Sharing Basis. Shared Bicycles.
