Erasmus + What is Erasmus +? Erasmus + is the new program proposed by the European Commision for Education, Training, Youth & Sports Beneficiaries Individuals - students, staff, trainees, teachers, volunteers and more Organizations - including universities, education and training providers, think thanks, research organizations, and private businesses. Budget 14.7 billion for the period 2014-2020. 40% increase, benefiting all sectors 2

To support Member States and partner countries in modernizing their education and vocational training systems. To promote youth participation in society. Student Mobility in Higher Education AIM: To provide more & better opportunities to increase skills & competencies of HE students, attract the best talent MAIN ACTIVITIES: Credit Mobility, including traineeship abroad mobility for studies opened to partner countries in both directions (New) Degree mobility excellent joint master courses offered by Universities from Europe and in some cases partner countries attracting the best students worldwide Student loan guarantee (New) to boost Master degree mobility within Europe 18

Staff Mobility in Higher Education AIM: To provide more & better opportunities for an increased quality in teaching & learning. MAIN ACTIVITIES: Teaching assignment to develop innovative teaching methods, mobility opened to partner countries in both directions (New) Professional Development to improve skills & competencies of both academic & non-academic staff, opened to partner countries in both directions (New) Invited staff from Enterprise to increase the relevance of curricula 19

International Credit Mobility WHAT IS IT? Student mobility for study from 3 to 12 months for Bachelor, Master, PhD to/from Partner Countries Student Traineeships abroad from 2 to 12 months to/from Partner Countries Staff mobility for Teaching from 5 days to max. 2 months to / from Partner Countries Staff mobility for Training for teaching and non-teaching staff from 5 days to max. 2 months to / from Partner Countries HOW TO APPLY? Only Programme-Country HEIs can apply for funding to their National Agency Partner-Country HEIs should strengthen their links with HEIs in Programme Countries to get involved 20

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees IN BRIEF: Continuation of Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses Joint Master courses offered by consortia of HEIs from Programme (& Partner) Countries to attract best students worldwide through scholarships 350 Joint Master Degree courses to be selected - 2014-2020 Expected to fund 30,000 students and staff over 7 years STRUCTURE: Integrated, international study program of 12, 18 or 24 months (60, 90, 120 ECTS), fully recognised, accredited in the countries participating High degree of jointness, excellent academic content & methodology Require study in at least two of the Programme Countries represented in the consortium Lead to the award of a double, multiple or joint degree Award full-study scholarships for students worldwide 21

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees HOW DOES IT WORK? Minimum consortium of 3 HEIs from 3 different Programme Countries HEIs from Partner Countries can take part Funding for four consecutive intakes of students and guest academics, covering - Total costs of student scholarships - Annual flat-rate fee for management and guest academic costs SCHOLARSHIPS PER INTAKE: 20 student scholarships + 12 additional scholarships from priority countries 4 invited guest lecturers per intake for at-least 8 weeks HOW TO APPLY: Annual Calls for Proposals issued by EU Programme-Country institutions may submit a proposal on behalf of an international consortium Proposals assessed by experts on basis of relevance, quality of design, quality of team, impact and dissemination Apply direct to EACEA: http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/erasmus-plus/funding_en 22

Higher Education KEY ACTION 2 Budget Share: 28% KA2 Cooperation for innovation - Higher Education- 1. Erasmus Strategic Partnerships: more intense cooperation between institutions. Decentralized 2. Knowledge Alliances: structured partnerships between HEI and businesses 3. Specific support with neighbourhood countries: Capacity building through partnerships between EU and ENP universities with a mobility component. 4. Rest of the world: Capacity building between universities in the EU and Asia, Latin America & Africa. HE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS Support HEI in their modernization strategy KNOWLEDGE ALLIANCE University Business Cooperation for Innovation SUPPORT TO NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES Curriculum dev., modernization, improving governance, stronger links with world of work COOPERATION WITH ASIA, LATIN AMERICA & AFRICA Mobility limited to HEI staff to achieve project objectives 23

Strategic Partnerships AIM: To foster quality and innovation in HEIs by stronger cooperation with enterprises, research organisations, social partners, local/regional authorities, youth sectors etc. 2 KINDS OF PROJECTS: 1. Projects supporting INNOVATION 2. Projects supporting EXCHANGE OF GOOD PRACTICES STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP MUST ADDERESS: 1 Horizontal priority 1 Field specific priority PROJECT DURATION & APPROX. BUDGET: 24-36 months Max. 450,000 for a period of 36 month 24

Strategic Partnerships MAIN ACTIVITIES: Implementing innovative practices in the field of education, training - New joint curricula, intensive study programs(5 days-2 months), longterm teaching, training assignments (2-12 months), short term staff training (5 days-2 months), blended mobility of students Develop project-based transnational cooperation with enterprises (including fostering social entrepreneurship) Pedagogical approaches and methodologies, including through a better exploitation of ICTs Activities to support learners with special needs Activities to integrate refugees, asylum seekers, newly arrived migrants PARTICIPANT ORGANIZATIONS: Partnerships include a minimum of 3 organisations from 3 programme countries. Programme-Country HEIs can apply to their National Agency to manage strategic partnerships 25

Knowledge Alliances AIM: To enhance structured, long-term cooperation between HEIs and enterprises to develop innovative ways of producing & sharing knowledge in result driven projects, particularly in emerging fields MAIN ACTIVITIES: Boosting Innovation in HE, businesses & broader socio-economic environment new learning & teaching methods, multidisciplinary curricula, learner centered, real problem based teaching & learning Stimulate entrepreneurship & entrepreneurial mind-set transversal skills, application based learning to strengthening employability, creativity, entrepreneurial opportunities creation of start-ups, spin-offs Facilitate the exchange, flow & co-creation of knowledge between HEIs & enterprises exchange of students, researchers, teaching staff & company staff, involvement of company in teaching/research 26

Capacity Building in Higher Education AIM: To Build capacity and help modernize HEIs in Partner Countries, to ensure structural, long-lasting impact Support modernization & internationalization Improve quality Improve the level of competences & skills Enhance management, governance in HEIs Promote people-to-people contacts, intercultural understanding Voluntary convergence w/ EU HE policy developments MAIN ACTIVITIES: 1. Joint projects: New curricula & degrees, learning and teaching methodologies, staff development, quality assurance, university-enterprise cooperation, virtual mobility, new governance & mgt. systems, research 2. Structural projects: develop & reform higher educations institutions & systems, enhancing their quality & relevance, as well as promoting regional cooperation. 28

Projects of 2 or 3 years Projects run by consortium of institutions(national/multi-country) Consortium must include both Programme & Partner Countries Project can be coordinated by a Programme or a Partner Country Partner Countries: Southern Med., Eastern Europe, Western Balkans, Russia, Asia, Central Asia, Latin America, Africa-Caribbean-Pacific (ACP) Projects for Southern Med., Eastern Europe & Western Balkans countries may include additional mobility component - for students and staff, to/from Programme Countries & between Partner Countries - same rules as for credit mobility (max 12 months) 29

Capacity Building in Higher Education PARTICIPANT ORGANIZATIONS: For National Projects 1 Partner & at-least 2 Programme Countries (min. 1 HEI from each Programme Countries & min. 3 HEIs from the Partner Country) For Multi-country Projects at-least 2 Partner & 2 Programme Countries (min. 1 HEI from each Programme Countries & min. 2 HEIs from the Partner Country) PROJECT DURATION: 12-36 months HOW TO APPLY?
