Being a good board member is hard work. We can help you be great. An enterprise of: 1

About us The Institute is the best practice network for Australian not-for-profit board/committee members, and the managers and staff who support them. An Our Community enterprise, the is Australia s leading provider of information, tools, training and qualifications for the not-for-profit sector. Our courses, events and resources are designed specifically for not-for-profit organisations, no matter their location, size or type, and for the people who serve them. Knowledge Sharing We give you the knowledge to keep you at the top of your game. The not-for-profit sector is on the move and it needs leaders. To lead your organisation well, you need knowledge. Members of the get access to our suite of constantly evolving knowledge-building tools: Community Directors Intelligence newsletter: Regular emailed newsletter, comprising the latest in not-for-profit governance and management news, board vacancies and capacity-building tools and templates (single-user or 10-user options available) Access-all-areas: Full access to the entire suite of online help sheets, policies and resources on the ICDA website, including password-protected tools and templates Books: Our library of books provides practical, plain language advice for current and prospective board members, and the people who work with or support not-forprofit boards Preferential booking: Be the first to know about all Institute training and events and receive preference for places in all our courses, including the Diploma of Business (Governance) 2

Why join? 1. Because not-for-profit directors are different. Governing or managing a not-for-profit is different to governing or running a company. The has been created purely for the not-for-profit sector and is dedicated to you! 2. Because it s applicable to your needs. Membership gives benefits to people seeking a board position, brand new board members, experienced board members, and senior staff who work with boards. 3. Because it will link you in with peer support. You will join a growing alumni of not-for-profit governance specialists, giving you access to deep connections and a vibrant network of believers and doers. There s an online forum, as well as regular face-to-face alumni events. 4. Because being a Community Director is not a hobby. Board work (including and often especially not-for-profit board work) is becoming increasingly complex. You need to know what your legislative and compliance requirements are. We have the tools and training to keep you informed. 5. Because it s good for your career. Membership and its benefits can advance your career opportunities as well as your community contributions. When you become a member of the Institute of Community Directors Australia, you re considered, by extension, a responsible person in the eyes of the ATO, clearing a hurdle to certain board appointments that require this status. 6. Because it opens new pathways. Membership gives you access to networks, information and opportunities which can open doors. 7. Because why wouldn t you? For $65 a year you get all of the above plus so much more. It s a bargain. 3

Your support and information has allowed me to take emotion out of the equation and think clearly about this governance issue. Thank you for yesterday s forum. It was the best fun, most practical and productive networking I have attended in years. It is very comforting to be connected to real subject matter experts. I have so much to report back, I will be recommending other board members come along next time. I look forward to other seminars or any updates! 6
