The PotashCorp Children s Museum The PotashCorp children s museum is a not- for- profit organization operating a children s museum in Saskatoon. Our mission is to foster creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning in children, through hands- on exhibits, programming, and outreach. Our organization fills a unique role: We provide a bridge between the intimate home learning environment and that of the curriculum- directed school by combining play with specific learning objectives in a welcoming, informal, and developmentally appropriate setting. In addition, through our Access program, we ensure that financial barriers do not limit access to our quality educational opportunities. We exist to serve our constituents children. In 2012, the City of Saskatoon selected the PotashCorp children s museum as the preferred tenant for the Mendel building which will be available for reuse as Saskatoon s art gallery moves to its new facility in 2016. The Mendel building is a treasured community and heritage landmark in Saskatoon, located on beautiful Spadina Crescent, alongside the South Saskatchewan River. The PotashCorp children s museum is committed to continuing the legacy of the Mendel building as a popular and culturally significant family and tourist destination in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan. We are embarking on an exciting journey that requires comprehensive planning, organization development, team expansion, and fund development. of which Saskatoon can be proud. Our community includes children and families, schools, early childhood development programs, funders, partners, arts and cultural organizations, the general public, and those involved in the Mendel building redesign including the City of Saskatoon, architects and exhibit designers. Exhibits and programs: The PotashCorp children s museum will create unique exhibits that reflect the community. The goal is to incorporate Saskatoon s and Saskatchewan s history, culture, art and environment, without duplicating any of the wonderful exhibits already available in Saskatoon. Possible exhibit themes include the performance arts, visual arts, science and nature, First Nations, our province s geography, our climate, Saskatchewan s booming resource industry, and multiculturalism. The Museum expects to have between 6 and 12 permanent exhibits. These will be hands- on and interactive, will promote experiential learning, and will be designed with varied ages and stages of development in mind. They will be built with the same standards of excellence that make children s museums so popular throughout the world. Hands- on exhibits will be complemented by on- site and outreach programs. A core offering is our Access program which ensures that financial barriers do not limit access to the Museum. Governance, Nominating, Human Resources : Develop a governance structure and human resources model that best suits the museum s needs. Build a strong, committed, and passionate board. Recruit key positions. Engage skilled and dedicated people to contribute their time on committees. Finance and Audit : Oversee annual audit and CDM s investment management. Make budget recommendations, review financial statements, and manage risk to ensure the organization s sustainability. Facilities : Undertake architectural and construction work to make the best of the Mendel building's significant attributes. Develop a building management model, and assist with all contractual and commercial negotiations. Revenue Development and Events Coordinator: Assist consultant [DCG Philanthropic Services] in running a successful capital campaign. Secure pledges for contributed core operating funds. Executive Director: Lead the museum in the areas of exhibit and program development, marketing and communications, human resources planning, operations, fundraising, and the redevelopment of the Mendel facility. Marketing and Communications Task Force: Create a strong message about the importance and value of a children's museum for Saskatchewan. Ensure that the museum s message is getting out there and resonating with people. Exhibits and Programming Task Force: Create exhibits and programs that will be unique and reflect the Saskatchewan community, culture, heritage, and landscape. Manager of Operations, Market Mall: Continue to successfully operate the PotashCorp children s museum at the Market Mall location and related outreach activities. In addition, manage logistics of two annual fundraising events, What s for Dinner and the Discovery Dash. Fund Development and Events Coordinator PotashCorp children s museum Position and Responsibilities PotashCorp children s museum (CDM) is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic fund development professional to join our team. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will be responsible for leadership, strategic direction, management and coordination of all fund development efforts. The work involves a variety of duties including: donor relations, donor communications, corporate sponsorship, grant writing, and event management. You will work in close collaboration with the Executive Director, staff, and key volunteer leadership to achieve the goals of the organization. Education and Qualifications Post secondary education, preferably in public relations, communications, marketing or non- profit studies Relevant work experience with 2-3 years demonstrated skills in fund development, event planning and volunteer development Requirements of the position: Proven success leading fundraising efforts to achieve revenue objectives Proven track record in inspiring confidence in donors, funders, and partners Proven track record of cultivating, maintaining and engaging donors and stakeholders Articulate and confident verbal communication skills Solid understanding of fund development, marketing techniques, strategies and systems Effective and accurate written communication skills Strong credibility and good judgment Excellent planning, organizational, computer and leadership skills Irregular work hours including evening meetings and weekend events Assets: Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) certification Experience with Raisers Edge or other CRM database software - 4 -
