Aboriginal Sport and Health Funding Program GUIDELINES AND CONDITIONS Objective of the Small Grants Program To provide funding of up to $5,000 (GST exclusive) to support Aboriginal organisations plan and conduct community sporting activities in Gippsland from 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2016. The Victorian Department of Health, GippSport and Gippsland Medicare Local recognise that physical activity is a great platform for community engagement in the Aboriginal community. This grants program will provide financial resources to sporting event and program organisers to ensure high quality projects can continue to engage the community in physical activity, while also providing a mechanism for engaging the community in healthy lifestyles social marketing campaigns. This Grants Program is open for applications and grants will be assessed on the following dates: Friday 12 September 2014 Friday 21 November 2014 Friday 20 February 2015 Friday 22 May 2015 Friday 14 August 2015 Friday 20 November 2015 Friday 19 February 2016 (final round) Grants are subject to the allocation of available funds for any given period. Applications must be made on the Grant Form provided. Grants are not reliant on any matching cash contribution for an application to be successful. A grant application must satisfy the following criteria: Successful projects will: - Engage the Aboriginal Community in sport and physical activities Provide benefits to the health and wellbeing of the Aboriginal Community. Conduct events that are drug and alcohol free Partner, where possible, with local sporting clubs and organisations

What will be expected of grant recipients? Successful organisations must actively support the implementation of a health promotion social marketing campaign that will leverage off Aboriginal sporting events and programs in Gippsland. Organisations and event organisers will be asked to work in partnership with GippSport to: Increase and enhance the online presence of their project, before, during and after your event. Generate a range of social marketing content (digital sound and vision) featuring Aboriginal people and stories that role model and celebrate healthy lifestyles. These people may include players, teams, officials, spectators, staff and event organisers Ensure Health identified health messages that benefit the Aboriginal Community are clearly embedded into funded projects and social media content. Who can apply and how to apply? Aboriginal community not-for-profit organisations, agencies and incorporated bodies/associations in Gippsland are eligible to apply if they: Involve community members at the local level; Are an incorporated body, co-operative or association; and Have an Australian Business Number (ABN) or have written advice from the Australian Taxation Office that the Withholding Tax does not apply to the grant payment. Unincorporated organisations may apply through a sponsoring organisation, which is an incorporated body, cooperative, or association that have an ABN. What will be funded? The Grants Program will provide funding for: Activities that will engage the Aboriginal community in physical activity programs and events Activities associated with the sporting event or program that aim to: o Reduce smoking among adolescents, pregnant women and adults and reduce children s exposure to passive smoking o Improve the nutritional and oral health of children and adults through healthy eating and drinking o Increase the participation of adults in Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer and Bowel cancer screening programs How much funding should we apply for? Organisations can apply for a grant of up to $5,000 per round and up to a maximum of $10,000 per financial year. The scale of community engagement and participation will be a key consideration in determining how much funding is made available for each project. This includes number of people involved, duration of the event and the quality of exposure to health related activities / messages.

The table below provides an indication of the level of funding that will be considered appropriate when submitting applications. Applications must be submitted on the Grant Application form. Grants must be received by 5pm on the closing dates. Late applications will be considered in the following round where applicable. If successful, Organisations must: complete, sign and return a Funding Agreement provide their ABN, GST status and bank details. provide evidence of their insurance cover (or Auspice Agency) provide an invoice for the amount funded plus GST At the completion of the project, successful Organisations must: complete a project report and evaluation (pro-forma supplied) within 60 days submit a financial statement and acquittal participate in any overall evaluation of the Koolin Balit: Sport and Health Social Marketing Strategy conducted by GippSport Grant application assessment The Project Control Group will assess grant applications and allocate grant funding. Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified within 14 days of the application due date. The Project Control Group comprises three members representing the Department of Health Victoria, GippSport and Gippsland Medicare Local.
