Northwest Hills District Klondike Derby February 17, 2018 Camp Mattatuck Unit Registration All Troops and Klondike Staff must Pre-Register on the Council on-line Registration Page for this event. Early Bird Registration fees through February 6 th at 11:30PM are- Scouts $10.00 Adults and Staff $5.00 Late Registration fees after February 6 th are- Scouts $15.00 Adults and Staff $5.00
Be Prepared Snow or Sun, Cold or Warm the Klondike will go on. Scouts must dress for the weather. Appropriate winter clothing must be worn including boots, hats, scarfs and gloves or mittens. Under no circumstances will any scout be allowed on the Klondike course wearing sneakers or not having the proper clothing for the weather conditions. Unit and Station Masters Check-In 1. Station Masters need to arrive by 7:00 AM to set up their stations. ALL stations need to be set up and ready to go by 8:00 AM 2. Any unit that is camping on Friday night or for the weekend at Camp Mattatuck and are participating in the Klondike Derby may check their unit in Friday evening at 49ers Cabin from 7:00 8:00 PM. 3. For units who are arriving on Saturday morning, check-in will open at 7:00 AM Saturday morning on a first come first serve basis at 49ers Cabin. Once your patrol is assembled, patrol leaders and a unit leader will sign in at 49ers cabin. Here you will receive a map; your patrol s starting point and an assigned starting time. Please have your Patrol Roster completely filled out prior to checking in. All sleds and scouts will then proceed to the Sled Inspection Area near the Volleyball Court and be inspected before being sent out on the Klondike course. The sleds need to contain the equipment on the list provided in this packet. You may add any other gear you think you may need. (Do not over load your sled) Your patrol will be scored on this inspection. Five (5) points will be awarded for each item that is on the list and on the sled. The first wave of sleds will go out at 8:00 AM and then every five minutes after that to reach their first station.

The food items will be donated to a Charitable Food Bank. Klondike Stations Patrols must spend 30 minutes at each station You must spend at least a minimum of 1 hour in a Cook-Station. All the stations (Except the Cook Stations) will open at 8:30 AM and close at 3:00 PM 1. Bearly Hanging Inn 2. Pancake Frisbee 3. OK Corral 4. Crossing the Crevasse 5. Closest to the Pin 6. Cook-Stations (LUNCH) The Cook Stations will be located at the Cub Pavilion and at Scoutcraft. Each Patrol must stop at a Cook Station between 11AM to 1PM to cook their Patrol lunch and must be out of the Cook-Station no later than 2PM. You must spend at least a minimum of 1 hour in a Cook-Station. You will need to start a fire at this station to cook your Patrol lunch. You are advised to bring Tinder, Kindling, and Firewood to this station. You may also use charcoal to cook with. NO CHARCOAL LIGHTER FLUID WILL BE ALLOWED. NO GROUND FIRES WILL BE ALLOWED. Metal or Foil pans are required for your fire. Each Patrol should have a balanced menu that includes a meat (NO HOTDOGS) a vegetable and a hot drink or soup in their menus. The Patrol s menu creativity, cooking techniques and Low Impact/ Leave No Trace methods will add up to the Patrol score for this station. Food All Patrols and Station Masters are responsible for providing and preparing their own lunch for this event. First Aid and Warming Center The Dining Hall will be used for a First Aid and Warming Center. Hot beverages and soup will be available here for warming purposes. There will be qualified medical personnel at the Klondike to treat any medical emergencies. Each Patrol is required to have a First Aid Kit in their sleds and should Be Prepared to treat minor injuries.
Scoring Each Patrol will be given a score sheet at the time of check-in. Each Patrol is required to turn in their score sheet to the Station Masters upon checking in at the station. The points awarded at each station will be based on the skill or challenge for the station. At each station you will be awarded Gold Nuggets based on your Scout Spirit. Each station will have a bonus question worth (10) points so BE PREPARED for some Scout Trivia or Scout Skill Questions. Patrols must turn in their score sheets at 49ers Cabin upon completing the Klondike Derby Course. In the event of any tie scores, additional Scout Trivia or Scout Skill Questions will be used to break any tie scores. Awards After all the scores are tallied, awards will be presented as follows in the Dining Hall: Awards will be given to the 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place Patrols for the overall Klondike event. Best Sled Award (Craftsmanship, Style and Creativity) will be presented to the Best Overall Sled Scout Spirit Award Presented to (1) Patrol that goes above and beyond with the most Scout Spirit and Teamwork for the entire Klondike event.
