2018 RYLA Three Step Application Process Step 1. Student completes online Request for Application (RFA). Step 2. Student and parents complete the full application and return the six (6) signed documents in the application back to the district committee. Step 3. Local Rotary Clubs select and approve students for sponsorship to RYLA 2018. After the student submits the Request for Application, a full APPLICATION will be forwarded to the email addresses submitted on the online form. Students and parents will complete and return the full APPLICATION to the District. Each local Rotary Club will review completed full applications and approve students for sponsorship to RYLA 2018. Clubs will use their normal selection process (interviews, etc.) to approve students they wish to sponsor. Important Dates to Remember September 1, 2017 District begins collecting contact information for RYLA Chairs! January 1, 2018 Clubs begin the RYLA recruiting process. Call your school counselor. It is important to get the campers committed early. Students may begin completing the online RFA. April 15, 2018 Payment due for early discount ($400 per camper). Make checks payable to Rotary District 5790. Clubs provide District names of campers they wish to sponsor. May 15, 2018 Completed applications submitted to the District. Mail to Clint Ishmael, 5960 CR 304, Grandview, TX. 76050; or Scan and email to info@ryla5790.org June 1, 2018 Notify District who will be transporting your camper to RYLA. The sponsoring Rotary Club is responsible for transporting campers to and from RYLA. Thursday June 14, 2018 Sponsoring Rotary Club will transport campers to RYLA in Denton. Arrive 7:30-9:00 a.m. Sunday June 17, 2018 Sponsoring Rotary Club will pick-up campers from RYLA in Denton. Depart 12:30-1:30 p.m. 5

Frequently Asked Questions Q: How do students begin the 2018 RYLA process? A: All prospective students MUST complete the online Request for Application (RFA) form. Click here for the link to the 2018 Request for Application. Q: How will the students get access to the online RFA form? A: Click here for the link to the 2018 Request for Application. Your Club will also receive an email notice with the link to the online RFA form and you may forward to the school or directly to students wishing to apply. The District Committee will also send out notices to schools and Interact Clubs in the District. All students who submit an online RFA form will require approval from the sponsoring Rotary Club. Q: How do I recruit students for RYLA? A: The best way to identify potential RYLA campers is contact your local school counselor. Explain the program to them and they will usually have recommendations for campers. Students of Rotary members are also encouraged to apply as well as other students the Club believes can benefit from the RYLA program. Q: How will my Club and the student parents sign all required paperwork? A: The District Committee will use the information from the online RFA form to produce a full student application (PDF) for the students. The District will email those full applications to the students for completion. The full application will contain the necessary waivers and releases that require Parent signatures (6 signature pages). Q: What if our club knows a student we would like to sponsor? A: Great, have the student complete the online RFA form and the District committee will forward the completed full application to your Club for approval. Q: Can we still use our normal interview process to select our students? A: Yes, all full student applications will be forwarded to the Clubs for approval. Just select the students you wish to interview and make the necessary arrangements. Q: What if I have additional questions? Map to Texas Woman s University, Denton, TX RYLA drop off point From Dallas Area Take Interstate 35E to Denton, exiting at Loop 288 (Denton/McKinney exit) and follow the TWU signs to the University Drive exit. Go west on University Drive. Follow University Drive to Bell Avenue, which runs through the heart of the TWU campus. Turn left on Bell Avenue. Immediately turn right into the parking lot of the Guinn- Stark residence halls (two tall towers). RYLA registration is in Guinn-Stark (the southwest corner of University Drive and Bell Avenue). OR From Fort Worth Area and From North Take Interstate 35W to Denton, exiting at University Drive (US 380). Go east right on University Drive. Follow University Drive to Bell Avenue, which runs through the TWU campus. Turn right on Bell Avenue. Immediately turn right into the parking lot of the Guinn-Stark residence halls (two tall towers). RYLA registration is in Guinn-Stark (the southwest corner of University Drive and Bell Avenue). Thursday, June 14th, 2018 Rotarians drive RYLA student participants to TWU in Denton. Registration is between 7:30 AM and 8:45 AM Sunday, June 17th, 2018 Rotarians pick up students at TWU. Check out is 12:30 1:30 PM 7

Student application page signed by parent. 2. Texas Woman s University Summer Camp Medical Waiver form signed by parent. 3. Texas Woman s University Summer Camp Rules and Expectations form signed by student and parent. 4. Rotary International District 5790 Health Information form signed by parent. 5. Media Release form signed by student and parent. 6. Youth Event Consent form signed by parent. Additional information needed by the District Committee 1. Name and contact information of the Rotarian transporting students to and from RYLA - This is a requirement of Rotary International. 2. Local Rotary Club Sponsorship Verification form. The Club s RYLA chairperson should provide the following information to the students and parents 1. Items Needed for RYLA Sheet provided in application packet 2. Name and contact information of Rotarian transporting students to and from RYLA This is a requirement of Rotary International. 8

2018 Items Needed for RYLA Stay PLEASE don t OVERPACK! We will be wearing our RYLA T-shirts most of the time. The T-Shirts are WHITE, so dark under garments may show underneath. Necessary items: Bedding Bath Items Clothing Four (4) RYLA t-shirts will be provided to each camper. NO tank tops, muscle shirts or half t-shirts are permitted. Sheets, blanket, and pillow (we will be staying in the dorms) Wash clothes, bath towels, flip-flops for room Shorts to be a 5 inseam or longer. District 5790 2018 RYLA Fact Sheet Rotary Youth Leadership Awards - A Leadership Development Experience What: In 1971 Rotary International adopted RYLA an intensive leadership development program for youth leaders. When: June 14 th 17 th, 2018 Where: Texas Woman s University in Denton, Texas Who: Students must be a high school Junior or Senior in the Fall of 2018. Students must be between the ages of 16 and 18. Students should meet the following qualifications: Leadership experience or potential, demonstrated through participation in youth group or service activities. Cooperative nature and willingness to participate in a group. Awareness of current events. Strong communication skills. Good performance in school and work. Enthusiasm for sharing newly found skills. Cost: A Rotary Club funds the sponsorship of the participant(s). $400 per camper if payment received by April 15 th, or $425 per camper if payment received after April 15 th. Check payable to Rotary District 5790. The RYLA Program is led in a professional, collegiate atmosphere where participants will: Develop leadership skills with the assistance of experts in social development in a hands-on environment. Increase self-confidence and enhance teamwork skills through participation in challenge course exercises. Learn proper social and business etiquette while participating in a formal dinner event. Explore a City government process through participating in a mock City Council Meeting. Expand their civic and patriotic skills in ethics and responsibility classes. Learn about the purpose and objectives of Rotary International while attending a Rotary club meeting. Learn about the Rotary Four Way Test. Participate in a community service project. Participate in problem solving exercises and programs designed to develop leadership skills. RYLA aims to: Demonstrate Rotary s respect and concern for young people. Introduce leadership concepts for youth leaders. Encourage leadership of youth by youth Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities. RYLA provides: An introduction of a variety of issues and people. An opportunity to make new friends. 10
