One of the fundraising events the MHS Booster Club runs to raise funds for our high school athletes is the basketball snack bar. At this time we are not sure if the snack bar will be open at each game due to the low response of volunteers to help run the snack bar. We will try our best to have the snack bar open with the few volunteers we have. Please consider volunteering an hour and a half of your time to help us run the snack bar for the boys and girls home basketball games. You can find the basketball schedule on the MHS website to see what home games you can help volunteer. Again, the money we make goes to all high school athletes. The MHS Booster Club is continually looking for members who are available to volunteer their time and efforts to support our student-athletes. We are very much in need of volunteers to help coordinate snack bar schedules and special events. Please join us and support all the student-athletes at MHS. Please contact us at Metuchenboosterclub@yahoo.com Student Council Snow Ball Due to inclement weather, Snow Ball, originally scheduled for December 9th has been rescheduled to Saturday, January 27, 2018. The dance will be held from 7:00-10:00pm and will include a DJ playing music in the gym, and a buffet-style dinner in the cafeteria, catered by Villa Gennaro s of Edison. If your child purchased a ticket for the 12/9 date, these tickets will be honored. So, please hold on to your tickets! If your child purchased a ticket and is now unable to go to Snow Ball on 1/27, please see Ms. Wagenblast. If your child filled out and handed in a Guest Application form & is still bringing the same guest they do not need to do anything else. If they are bringing a different guest to Snow Ball, a Guest Application Form needs to be filled out & submitted no later than Friday, January 12th. Guest Application Forms can be found in the Front Office. Tickets will be available at the door for $16.00. The administration and staff at Metuchen High School would like to wish all of you Happy Holidays and a prosperous new year!!!!

ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE SCHOOL COUNSELING DEPARTMENT 3 UPCOMING GRADE LEVEL MEETINGS Course Planning Conferences for the 2017-18 School Year: School Counselors will meet with students for course selections, for the next school year, during the month of February. A notice concerning your child s scheduling appointment will be sent toward the end of January. The updated Program of Studies booklet will be posted online on the Guidance website and will be available by the time the conference notifications are sent out. Junior Conferences - College and Career Planning: Juniors and parents, please contact the Guidance & School Counseling Office to schedule your conference appointment. Please note that there will be no Junior Conferences scheduled in February due to school-wide Course Planning Conferences. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend. Grade Reporting January 24th marks the end of the second marking cycle and the first semester. Attention Senior Students Sending Mid-Year Grades to Colleges: Any senior who needs Mid-Year grades sent to a college must submit the request by completing the Mid-Year Report Card Request Form. The form can be found on the School Counseling webpage or by clicking here: Mid-Year/ First Semester Report Card Request. Please submit to the Guidance Office no later than February 2, 2018. Inform Guidance of all College Admissions Decisions: Please inform us of your college acceptances. As you receive admissions decisions, you need to inform the Guidance & School Counseling Office whether you have been accepted, wait-listed, deferred or denied for each school. You may enter this information through your Naviance account under "Colleges I'm applying to" (www.connection.naviance.com/metuchen). Find the "Results" column of the list and click on the pencil icon. Complete the FAFSA (www.fafsa.gov): Every family preparing to send a child to college should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form is REQUIRED of any student seeking federal and state financial aid (including loans) at any college in the country. Every family should complete it, regardless of income, since many scholarship programs require it (even those with no income eligibility). For additional information on any of the announcements on page 3, 4, and please contact the MHS Guidance and School Counseling Office at 732-321-870. Attention Potential College Athletes NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse: Access the website below to find the tools and information you need to navigate the eligibility process for college athletics. www.eligibilitycenter.org - Potential college athletes should register online with the Eligibility Center as early as sophomore year. To create an account, either click on the New Account button at the top right of the screen or the cell phone on the left side of the screen. Juniors will need to request for the Guidance Office to send an official transcript, and seniors will need to follow up to request that we send the final transcript. If you have any questions, or need assistance, please call your School Counselor at 732-321-870. Naviance Family Connection will allow students to: Registration Deadline January 12th If your child receives free/reduced lunch, he/she is eligible for an ACT fee waiver and should stop in Guidance to pick it up. Fee waivers cannot be used for late registration. Start planning early - Build a resume, set goals, follow tasks assigned by the school counseling team, plan a course of study and keep up with important planning milestones. Research colleges - Search a large database of colleges for information on admissions, cost, majors offered, etc. Determine admission prospects and academic goals by comparing your GPA and standardized test scores with average scores of previously accepted students. Explore career options Search a large database of careers for information on common activities, necessary skills, required education and wages. Students can also take career assessments to help determine interests, preferences. Sign up for college visits - Find out which colleges are visiting our school and sign up to attend those sessions. Search for scholarships and enrichment programs Check for postings of local scholarships and utilize a national scholarship search tool. Get important emails from the Guidance Office! With an email address linked to your account, you ll receive up-to-date announcements, reminders and other valuable information. Access resource pages, helpful websites, the document library and more

Freshman Orientation Thursday, February 1, 2018 A Freshman Orientation for parents of 8th grade students who will be entering the high school in the Fall of 2018 will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018. The orientation will be held in the high school auditorium and will begin at 7:00pm. Season Passes For Athletic Events The Athletic Department is offering season passes for the winter (basketball and wrestling). The cost of each pass is $2 and it includes a guest. Interested parties can contact the Athletic Director, John Cathcart, at 732-321-87 or the Main Office at 732-321-8744. These passes cannot be used for GMC and/or N.J.S.I.A.A. playoff games.
