Attend an Information Session. This will give you the opportunity to learn about the program(s) you are interested in and receive enrollment instructions. Sessions are offered during the day and in the evenings. 2. Complete Admission Requirements. Students must have a high school diploma, GED, home school diploma or equivalent, or be on track to graduate prior to first class. Prepare for, schedule, complete the WorkKeys assessment and receive passing scores for the program of interest. 3. Apply for financial assistance. Financial aid is available to those who qualify. A $200 deposit, credited toward tuition, is due when you enroll. 5. Sign up for classes. Secure a seat in the class by paying all outstanding tuition and fees before the start of the term. Earn College Credit WorkKeys Skills Assessments Enrollment in some of our career training programs requires a WorkKeys skills assessment in math, reading and locating information. If you need a refresher, or simply want to study before taking the assessment, Butler Tech offers free preparation classes that combine teacher-led classroom instruction and online courses. You will need to begin your WorkKeys preparation classes at least two weeks before taking the WorkKeys assessment. Ohio s Transfer to Degree Guarantee helps career and technical students transfer credits to community college or four-year degree programs. The One-Year Option credit articulation system allows graduates who complete a 900+ hour program of study and who obtain an industry recognized credential to receive 30 college technical credit hours toward a technical degree upon enrollment in an institution of higher education. Adult education students who wish to transfer to an institution of higher learning may be eligible for college credit for specific coursework as decided by the receiving institution. Options include: Pell Grants: Need-based grants that do not have to be repaid. Apply online at FAFSA.edu.gov. Direct Loans: Subsidized and unsubsidized loans are available for eligible students. Repayment usually begins six months after you leave school. PLUS Loans: PLUS Loans are for parents of dependent students only. They are not need-based. Repayment begins while the student is still in school. The maximum loan amount may not exceed the total cost of attendance less any other aid to be received. Medical Assisting Registered medical assistants are on the frontlines of patient care and central members of the healthcare team. They often serve in both administrative and clinical roles. A billing professional will use those codes to accurately submit claim forms to insurance companies, appeal denials, and post charges, payments, and adjustments to patient accounts. Certified Billing & Coding Specialists will find jobs in physicians offices, hospitals, clinics, and insurance companies. Industrial Trades Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) Learn about commercial and residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning and refrigeration systems. The curriculum includes complete systems repair, installation, schematic reading, electrical theory, refrigerant handling, systems diagnostics, and wiring and controls. This curriculum includes training in the skills needed to perform technical service on both residential and commercial refrigeration units, ice machines, and reach-in and walk-in coolers, which are used by many different types of industries. Come to an orientation session, and we ll do an assessment to determine where you are and which of these free courses is best for you. Basic skills. Skills training in reading, writing and mathematics for those needing help before beginning preparation for a GED. College readiness. Prepare for your college entrance exam by brushing up on math skills and language arts. Workplace readiness. You have your high school diploma but need basic reading, writing, math or computer skills to help you get ready for a new job or to apply for a job. English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) These free classes are for adults who speak almost no English, those who would like to learn survival English how to navigate everyday life in the U.S., such as grocery shopping, going to the library, talking to your children s schoolteachers, and more and also for those who speak English well, but need to improve their written skills. This class can help you prepare for a citizenship, drivers or a GED test. The classes are taught in English, so you can practice speaking it with your teacher and fellow students. When you enter the program, we ll meet with you to assess your need. We ll then direct you to the class that suits you best. GED Preparation Butler Tech General Educational Development (GED) courses help you get ready for all four areas of the GED exam: English, mathematics, social studies and science. We will first check your skill level. Then, we will develop a customized learning plan for you. Classes are in six-week sessions, but you can take the free classes as long as you need to help prepare for the exam. Butler Tech Adult Basic and Literacy Education, or ABLE, provides free classes to adults who want to improve their learning and earning potential.
