SPORTS MEDIA RELATIONS SPORTS MEDIA RELATIONS The University of Miami Sports Information Office coordinates all of the media relations activities each of UM's 15 varsity sports programs. Pray oversees the athletic department s sports media relations efforts, as well as serving as the primary liaison with the department s broadcast partners. Pray came to Miami in 2001, after serving four years as Director of Media Relations for the WNBA (Women s National Basketball Association) and most recently as Director of Communications Projects for the NBA. In 1988, Pray was named as the first Director of Media Relations for the Miami Heat, a position he held until being promoted to Vice President for Communications in 1995. In his capacity as V.P. for Communications, Pray oversaw the Heat s media & community relations and broadcast departments. Pray received an undergraduate degree in journalism from Kansas State and a master s degree in sports administration from Ohio University. SCOTT MOODY Scott Moody is in his third year at the University of Miami and in his second year as an Assistant Sports Information Director at UM. Moody coordinates all of the media relations activities for the UM women's basketball, women's soccer and men's tennis teams. Moody came to Miami in July of 2003, serving as an intern in the UM Sports Information Office where he handled the media relations responsibilities for the UM women's volleyball, women's rowing, swimming and diving and men's tennis teams during the 2003-04 season. A native of Dillon, S.C. he earned a bachelor's degree in sports and entertainment management from the University of South Carolina in 2004. While at USC, he also served as student assistant in the USC Sports Information Office. MEDIA MEDIA POLICIES INTERVIEW POLICIES Head coach Katie Meier and players are normally available prior to the start of practice and following the conclusion of practice. No player interviews will be granted on gamedays. Phone interviews for out-of-town media can also be arranged. All interview request should be made one (1) day in advance and should be directed to the University of Miami Sports Information Office and Assistant Sports Information Director Scott Moody (smoody@miami.edu) at 305-284-3236. COVERING PRACTICE Accredited media may attend selected practices for the University of Miami women's basketball program. Members of the media must schedule to attend practice through the University of Miami Sports Information Office and Assistant Sports Information Director Scott Moody (smoody@miami.edu) at 305-284-3236. PRESS RELEASES The University of Miami Sports Information sends out regular updated press releases on the UM women's basketball team via email. Any accredited media members may be added to the press release distribution list by contacting the University of Miami Sports Information Office and Assistant Sports Information Director Scott Moody (smoody@miami.edu) at 305-284-3236. TICKETS Tickets to all UM basketball games can be purchased through the Hurricane Ticket Office at 1-800-GO-CANES or on the web at www.hurricanesports.com. GAMEDAY GAMEDAY SERVICES The University of Miami Sports Information Office will provide gameday notes, pre-game statistics and programs prior to the start of each women's basketball game. First half statistics and play-byplay analysis will be distributed following the conclusion of the first half and final game statistics and complete play-by-play analysis will be distributed at the end of the game. The UM Sports Information Office will also help fulfill any post-game coach and player requests. CREDENTIALS Credentials for UM women's basketball games are to be used by working media only and should be requested via phone call, email or fax at least one week in advance. All request should be directed to Assistant Sports Information Director Scott Moody (smoody@miami.edu) at 305-284- 3236. The University of Miami Sports Information Office reserves the right to refuse any credential request deemed not to be in the best interest of the University. PARKING Media parking for all home games is available at no charge in the Ponce de Leon Parking Garage located on the corner of Dickinson Drive and Ponce de Leon Boulevard. MEDIA ACCOMMODATIONS Media for all UM home games will be seated behind the basket in the south-west section of the Convocation Center. Gameday notes, programs and statistics along with media work areas are located in the media work room on the south-west side of the arena. Meals will be provided for a charge approximately 90 minutes prior to tip-off. The media work room will be open prior to the start of each game, at halftime and at the conclusion of each game. TELEPHONES The University of Miami Sports Information Office will provide six (6) complementary phone lines available for media use in the Convocation Center Media Work Room. However, complementary phone lines are available on a first-come, first-serve basis so it is recommended that media with deadline concerns order phone lines. RADIO Seating for radio broadcast for all UM home games is available on the north-west side of the floor at the Convocation Center. One (1) phone line will be provided free of charge for all visiting radio networks as designated by opposing sports information offices. All additional phone lines must be ordered through Valeria Henderson with Global Spectrum at 305-284-8244. POST-GAME INTERVIEWS Head coach Katie Meier and selected University of Miami women's basketball players will be available for interview in the media work room following a brief "cooling off" period with the conclusion of each home game. Coaches and players from each opposing team will also be available for postgame interviews. All post-game interviews will be coordinated with the University of Miami Sports Information Office. ACC MEDIA SERVICES ACC MEDIA RELATIONS The ACC Media Relations Office offers a side array of services to the media, fans and members institutions. THEACC.COM The Atlantic Coast Conference official web site can be accessed by visiting www.theacc.com. Information is updated with new material daily. Links to each of the ACC schools' official athletic websites are also located on this site. TheACC.com will have an updated basketball release each afternoon following the day of a game. The ACC Player and Rookie of the Week will be posted on Monday afternoons. HONORS AND AWARDS. The Associated Press/ACSMA All-ACC teams, All-Freshmen team, Coach of the Year, Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year are selected by a vote of members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA). The five member All-Defensive team is chosen by a vote of the league's 12 head coaches. The All-ACC teams, All- Freshmen team and All- Defensive team will be announced the week of the tournament, and individual honors will be announced the week following the tournament. ACC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Each week an ACC women's basketball Player and Rookie of the Week are selected. The players are announced Monday afternoon and appear in the weekly press release. Players and Rookies of the Week are chosen by a select panel of media representatives within the ACC region from nominations provided by the league sports information directors. COVERING THE HURRICANES TELEVISION TELEVISION COVERAGE As a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the University of Miami is featured in one of the largest women's basketball television packages in the country in the ACC's Regional Sports Network (RSN), consisting of FOX Sports South (FSN), SUN Sports (SUN) and Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS). This season the Hurricanes are schedule to appear RSN four times during the course of the 2005-06 campaign. RADIO RADIO BROADCAST Every University of Miami women's basketball game is carried live on WVUM (90.5 FM), the University's student radio station which can be heard throughout Dade county.
